After the ceremony, the couple climb onto their elegant carriage while family and friends watch, taking photos as the couple wave goodbye and ride off. During the ride, guests have a chance to make their way to the reception or dinner, allowing the couple time to be alone togeth- er. When the carriage ride is over, guests are usually in place and the newly married couple make their big entrance at the reception. Carriages are rented by the hour which allows time to ride through the Island stopping for photographs at various locations. Be sure your photographer follows your carriage on their bicycle for wedding pictures along the way. During the ride, you may enjoy views of the Mackinac Bridge, lighthouses, the shoreline, the woods, and historic cottages on both East and West bluffs.

Local carriage liveries on the Island offer private wedding carriages for hire. There are several different col- ors and styles of carriages to choose from and all are paired with a team of handsome horses and an appro- priately dressed driver to accent the carriage. All carriages feature retract- able tops that cover passengers in case of bad weather. Many couples include their wedding party or their parents on carriages too, so consider hiring a second or third carriage to join you. Having the bridal party or parents along creates a memorable experience for them and the opportunity for more pho- tos of everyone at the carriage photo stops.
