I’m not sure about you, but my kids are always ready for a craft and a bit of mess. When it’s too cold to go outside and sled ride, this is a fun way to stay busy indoors. Handprint Keepsake You’ll Need Washable paint (the mess-friendly kind!) Paper or cardstock Paper plate Paintbrush or sponge Markers or crayons Wipes or paper towels Let’s Create! Squirt a little paint onto a plate pick your favorite color! Paint your hand using a brush or sponge (tickles allowed) Press your hand onto the paper and lift straight up ta-da! Let your handprint dry while you wash those colorful hands. Once dry, grab markers and turn your handprint into a silly animal, pretty flower, or happy heart. Add your name and today’s date so you can remember your mas- terpiece! Fun Idea: Try using both hands or mixing colors to make it extra special! It’s January, the month of cold weather, fresh starts, and let’s be honest a little hibernation. Here’s a joke to warm you up while you sip your hot cocoa: Why did the snowman refuse to go to the New Year’s party? He said, “I’d love to come, but I hear they’re serving hot soup… and I’m afraid I’d melt under the pressure!” His friend, the snowwoman, replied, “Don’t worry! Just stick to the ice cream and snow cones, and you’ll be fine.” The snowman thought about it for a moment, then shrugged. “You know what? Ingredients • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened • 1/2 cup mayonnaise • 1 tablespoon lemon juice • 2 teaspoons seafood seasoning • 2 teaspoons minced chives • 1-1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder • 1/4 teaspoon pepper • 2 cans (6 ounces each) lump crabmeat, drained • 1-1/4 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided Directions Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, beat cream the first 8 ingredients until smooth. Stir in crab and 1 cup cheese. Spread into a greased 9-in. pie plate. Sprinkle with remain- ing 1/4 cup cheese. Bake until bubbly and cheese is melted, 25-30 minutes. If desired, sprinkle with additional chives.

Ingredients •

1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 cups pecan halves 1 cup walnut halves

Directions Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, mix the first 5 ingredients until blended. Add pecans and wal- nuts; toss to coat. Transfer to a greased baking sheet. Shake well and strain into a glass with fresh ice. Garnish with a lemon peel. Mocktail: Replace whiskey with iced black tea or lemon- ade. Pear Vanilla Martini Serves 1 Ingredients 2 oz vodka 2 oz pear nectar ¼ tsp vanilla extract Pear slice (garnish) Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake until chilled. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a pear slice Mocktail: Use sparkling water instead of vodka. Why did January break up with December? Because December was too “holiday stressed” and Janu- ary just wanted a fresh start! January shrugged and said, “I’m not bitter—I’m just chilling… literally.” Meanwhile, February rolled its eyes and muttered, “Here we go again… can someone pass the hot chocolate?” Moral of the story: Even the coldest months can have a warm sense of humor just like you, after a cozy day with a good laugh!
