Certified Peer Specialist TRAINING COURSE

Activity: Where Do We Stand The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration defines recovery as “a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential.” Certified peer specialists identify as people with lived experience who have navigated their own personal pathway to recovery. Because lived experiences are based on a unique set of perspectives, beliefs, values, culture, sense of community, and resources, each person’s path to recovery will be unique as well. There is no right way to enter recovery. Multiple pathways to recovery exist. The role of the certified peer specialist is to understand, accept, and support each peer’s unique path in order to walk alongside the peer.
