Beauty and the Beast

Preston College offer Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair and Media Make-Up at Levels 2 & 3. The courses are both one year in duration and provide learners with the opportunity to develop specialist skills and techniques required for the industry. The courses cover all genres of make-up, body art, hair and wigs and special effects including making prosthetics which are needed for those wishing to pursue a career in theatre, film, and TV or those looking to become a freelance artist. At Preston College we pride ourselves on delivering industry level specialist skills and techniques which will enhance the learner’s skillset. We also create opportunities for learners to participate in competitions, work experience and access to guest speakers as well as working on productions to demonstrate their skills to future employers or include in their university applications. After completing their studies at Level 3 learners can progress to a number of roles in the industry or continue their education at university and specialise in a subject area within Make-up and Special Effects. The ‘Beauty and the Beast’ was created using a range of make-up products, adornments and hand laid crepe hair. It was brought to life by Level 3 students Jessica Blackledge (17) and Sidra Baig (35) who is also a baker and sugar artist called ‘Gourmet Gateaux’ when not being a Make-Up Artist. The model was Sophie Mawdsley (18) who is also an Make-Up Artist studying the Level 3 course at Preston College.
