answer arrived, an excellent position paying good money, the prospect of a speedy reuniting of wife and baby in a far away state, the purchase of his ticket, a return to give thanks and tell us all about it, the grip of the hand, some broken but grateful words, and away perhaps never to see one another again till the roll is called up yonder. How one case always recalls still another, this one still more recently, when the broken hearted cry of a Godly father and mother reached us from way back East of thé erring boy who needed Oh! so sorely the Christ cure. He was in prison and the great iron bars were between us, but we managed to get the message across and felt the comfort of the words that indeed “blessed were the feet of him who bringeth good tidings,” as we left with the assurance from his lips that he was through with the old and on with the new. He turned my darkness into day This blessed Christ of Calvary. As we daily watch the ceaseless tread of restless steps pass ing Biola Hall our hearts are lifted to Him for whom all blessings flow for more grace as some always turn into our doors, usually only seeking the loaves and fishes but praise His peerless name, though only expecting to receive mater ial things they oftentimes depart leaping and praising God for meeting and satisfying a deeper need than even they were conscious of, Here comes a sorry frazzled discouraged man with a poor tired woman dragging behind. She is in a very delicate condition soon to bring into this sad old world another life. We listen to the same sad story poured out from the begin ning of sin from broken hearts; no work, no food, no hope, sleeping in an old discarded movie van. The hot tears fall from her eyes as some word touches a hidden spring. We slip the silver dollars in her hand, the warm under clothing are furnished, the old worn out shoes are ex changed for some good strong ones, the Book of books, is tucked away in her breast, and as we watch them leave with lighter steps and heart to take up the battle again we thank God for making us Channels, only channels, blessed Master But with all Thy wondrous power Flowing through us; keep using us for Thy glory, every hour, till life’s sad story ends in glory on yonder shore. Thus the bread is cast upon the waters, the seed is sown in the morning and even when the eventide throws its shadows o’er this little landscape of our life we seek not to withhold our hand, for who knows which will prosper? “Who then is that faithful and wise steward whom His Lord shall make ruler over His household to give them their portion of meat in due season.” “Blessed is that servant whom His Lord when He cometh shall find so doing.” jâa? God works through His Word and when that Word is sown it is a saving light. Several weeks ago one of our helpers, Mr. Dunham, left a Gospel of John with a man on one of the lumber vessels. Having no time for conver sation and, thinking because of its color—red—it was an I. W. W. booklet, he gladly received it. Mr. Dunham met him on a later visit and the man testified that when he be gan to read and learned it was the Word of God, he saw

his need of Salvation, accepted the Saviour it revealed and no.w had peace and satisfaction. Thinking men know we have a serious problem facing us these days in the problem of capital and labor. Praise God there is a solution if men will heed it. Let both capi talist and laborer get in right relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ and then he who hires will give a decent wage and he who earns will work an honest hour. A Visit to a French Training Ship We were privileged this month to visit a French training ship carrying over one hundred and fifty of France’s finest youth. Being so impressed by their eagerness to receive both English and French literature, we sought opportunity from one of their instructors, to speak to them all in one group. This was refused. However more- gospels were happily received by one of the men who promised to dis tribute them. Seemingly we were defeated, but knowing that no word of God is void of power but will accomplish the thing where unto He sent it, we rejoiced. Very often men, in their surprise at seeing a preacher, sky-pilot or psalm singer, as he is called on board a ship, seek to dodge the issue and “pass the buck” on to one another. On one vessel we spoke to the second officer, “The man you need to see is the first officer,” he said, and blew a small pocket whistle for him. The first officer ar rives and then both hear a “straight-from-the-shoulder” message. Becoming convicted, they call the chief engineer; the chief engineer in turn calls the captain and, because of his being occupied, we are invited into the engineer’s room. A long conversation is held and he is brought face to face with the issue of salvation. After this we have access to the whole vessel and entire crew, and an invita tion to return upon the vessel’s next visit is received. Five Sailor Lads Converted For many months we have ‘coveted a privilege of speak ing to the enlisted men without having to waste time with the ordinary naval programme. Through the courtesy of the Naval Y. M. C. A. this privilege was granted and five sailor lads came to a clear, definite, decision for Christ as their own personal Saviour and Master. We are desirous of teaching some of these lads the Word of God in some convenient place and covet your prayers in this matter. BIOLA CLUB OF PASADENA E lw o o d P . L yon, Supt,— O ur cen ter fo r Bible C lasses, E vangelistic Services a n d P ersonal W ork, in th e h e a rt of th e C ity ' of Pasadena. Much personal work is being done by workers. Many are earnestly praying for a great revival. A few days ago one of our workers at a sanitarium near here was privileged to lead a Jewess to accept Jesus Christ as her Saviour. She is now wonderfully happy. Another worker was privileged to lead a Jew, who was saved in Chicago, but had backslidden, to accept Jesus Christ with, all his heart. He is now happy in his return to the Lord. A band from the Mexican workers who meet at Biola Club on Sundays, went to a neglected town and made a personal canvass of the Mexican people, distributing 100 Testaments in Spanish, and won about ten to Christ. We have been privileged to bring cheer, comfort, and spiritual help to many individuals in the last few weeks, some of whom were discouraged and one on the verge of giving up all hope.
