Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund Fund 221

In FY 2017 the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) Fund will begin with a FB of $1,606,654 and is projected to end with a FB of $1,490,899, which represents a decrease of 7.2% throughout the year. This reduction in FB is due to a slight increase in hotel tax revenue, an increase in the annual allocation for the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce for expenses related to the Convention and Visitors Bureau, and a decrease in allocation for Arts Grants. DEBT SERVICE FUND Bond Debt Service Fund Fund 305 This fund receives tax revenue and funds debt service. This fund will begin FY 2017 with a FB of $3,167,207 and will end with a projected FB of $3,093,334, which represents a 2.3% decrease in FB throughout the year. This fund receives revenues from State of Texas seizures related to State of Texas criminal cases investigated by the DeSoto Police Department. Expenditures from this fund are intended to enhance Police Department operations. This fund will begin FY 2017 with a FB of $2,057 and will end with a FB of $2,907, which represents an increase of 41% in FB throughout the year. This increase is due to flat (level) revenues anticipated for FY 2017, and a slight decrease in Services & Professional Fees expenditures budgeted. Police Department - Federal Seized Funds Fund 210 This fund receives revenues from seizures related to Federal criminal cases investigated by the DeSoto Police Department. Expenditures from this fund are intended to enhance Police Department operations. This fund will begin FY 2017 with a FB of $310,900 and will end with a FB of $1,100, which represents a decrease of 99.6% throughout the year. Revenue for this fund in FY 2017 is projected to be slightly higher than the previous fiscal year, but expenditures budgeted for Capital Outlay, Interactive Community Policing, Other Equipment, Training & Travel, as well as other police-related expenses, exceed the amount of revenues anticipated for the FY.
