TRUE SAINTS Who is on the Lord’s side? (Ex. 32:26) The true saints are true friends of God and man. 1. They show carefulness in avoiding sin. 2. They manifest a deep abhorrence o f the sins o f others. 3. They manifest zeal fo r the honor and glory o f man. 4. They sympathize with God in His feelings toward man. 5. Their great object is to make oth ers friends o f God. 6. They avoid everything that might defeat this end. 7. They are always distressed unless sinners are being converted. 8. Their prayer is mainly not fo r themselves but fo r sinners. 9. Their hearts are set on the con version o f sinners; they do not ask what they are “ required” to do, nor wait to be commanded. 10. They deny themselves to do good to others. 11. They are continually devising new means fo r doing good. 12. They manifest great g rief when they see the church asleep and doing nothing fo r the salvation of sinners. 13. They ane grieved if they think their minister does not reprove the church faithfully. 14. They will always stand by a faith fu l minister who preaches the truth boldly. 15. They are especially distressed when ministers preach sermons not adapted to convert sinners. 16. They are always dissatisfied with themselves that they do no more fo r the conversion o f sinners. 17. They can be moved only by appeal ing to their great and leading ob je ct: the glory o f God and the salvation o f sinners. — adapted from Charles G.
