may send a “token” or a “tip” to for tify us. However, I am convinced that God’s highest intention is to get us free from unnecessary “ props.” He wants to buttress us, not baby us. He wants to take us out of our spiritual strollers and teach us to walk in faith. Above all, He wants us to trust His Word, not the wool! When He causes us to hope in a promise, that hope may be our only evidence. Can you trust God (without a sign) as your daughter trusts you? Suppose you promise her a birthday party. On the basis of your word, she gives you her invitation list. With no “ sign” whatever, she confidently looks ahead. Her faith rests in you —in your ability to grant her request, your integrity, your promise, and your personal love. However, even though she anticipates, she waits for her birthday! At this moment you can’t see ahead. There seems to be no unusual “lead ing.” However, you can still be in corrigibly hopeful. You can anticipate as you wait, knowing that God will never disappoint the hope He Himself implants. His promise will “ grow on you” as the Holy Spirit weaves God’s Word into every fiber of your being. God is never too late. The circum stances will dovetail and “He will di rect and make straight and plain your paths” (Prov. 3:6). Remember — not the wool but the Word! —by Ruth Calkin M Y CH ILD SA ID THAT? About 100 junior-age children finished a week of camping at For est Home, and on the last evening they were seated around the camp fire for their sharing time. They were given a piece of wood, called a fagot, which they broke in half. Then they, stood up one at a time and told of the decision they had made that week. One half of the fagot they threw into the fire as a dedication, and the other half they kept as a reminder. One young boy had sincerely met and trusted Christ for the first time, and it was very important to him. When it was his turn to speak, he said in a clear voice, “ Give me a BIG fagot; I’ve made a BIG decision!” Sent by Eleanor More of Pomona, Calif.
