Spa City Therapy_Do What’s Good For Your Heart!

In this season of love, each of us has our own way of expressing our love to those we care about. To some of us, love is caring for someone and meeting their needs, for others, it is receiving that care from someone else. When you have love to give, you just need to share it! Our youngest son Brady has always wanted a Husky to love on. After years of begging for a puppy, we finally decided to let Brady buy a Husky... on the condition that he save up enough money to pay for half the cost. ;)

In this season of love, each of us has our own way of expressing our love to those we care about. To some of us, love is caring for someone and meeting their needs, for others, it is receiving that care from someone else. When you have love to give, you just need to share it! Our youngest son Brady has always wanted a Husky to love on. After years of begging for a puppy, we finally decided to let Brady buy a Husky... on the condition that he save up enough money to pay for half the cost. ;) With Brady’s propensity to collect shoes— he owns over 21 pairs—we (actually I), never thought he would be able to save enough to buy the dog. Well, he was on a mission! He saved money all summer by working at the clinic. He cleaned rooms and windows, washed laundry, folded towels, filed old charts, and emptied the trash. He saved close to $480.

We started the puppy hunt. Almost right away we got word from a friend that she had Husky/ Lab puppies that she wanted to give away!! We made plans to look at them, and Brady picked an adorable, fluffy one because he liked her light brown coat and white-socked feet. Brady was having a tough time choosing a name, so we decided to do a Facebook poll. The choices were Paris and Tessa. The votes came pouring in for Tessa (60 to 30) but in the end, Brady decided he liked the name Paris better. The long six-week wait was over. The week after New Years Day, we finally picked Paris up. She is playful and cute, and it’s a good thing because now we are full force into potty training... but we’ll save that subject for another time. :0

Patient Testimonials

3 “My golf is not any better than before, but at least I am able to play again.” I want to personally thank the following people that helped me: Lee and Scott Sowerbutts, Aaron, Wesley, Kerry, Leslyn, Kaylinn, Laken and trainee, Jeremy. Of course, you always have a favorite and mine was LESLYN. She was the first one to start me on my program, gave me cards to help at home, showing exercises and stretching that help with my problem. She was very professional in her job of helping me through my therapy. This is in no way taking anything away from all the others mentioned above as they too were fantastic in how they helped me. It was always a pleasure to go to each therapy treatment because everyone made my visit fun. Needless to say, I am now able to play golf again which was my ultimate goal to start with. I have been to several therapy places here in the Village, but none as good as this one. Thanks again to each one of these therapists and GOD BLESS each and every one of them. My golf is not any better than before, but at least I am able to play again. 8 1 6 3 4 7 5 3

Don't Let theCoolWeather SlowYouDown

Try these outdoor activities: • Brisk walking or hiking • Jogging or running • Raking leaves • Shoveling snow • Ice skating • Sledding • Cross-country skiing • Snowshoeing

When winter blows in, you can pull the blankets over your head and go back to sleep — or you can suit up and head out for an outdoor winter adventure! The American Heart Association offers these tips for working out in the cold of winter. There’s no reason you need to take a break from physical activity when the temperature drops. In fact, exercising in cooler weather has some distinct advantages over working out in warmer weather. Tips to Keep in Mind 1. No heat and humidity to deal with. Winter’s chill might even make you feel awake and invigorated. 2. You may be able to work out longer in cold weather — which means you can burn even more calories. 3. It’s a great way to take in the sunlight (in small doses). Not only can light improve many peple’s moods, it also helps you get some vitamin D. 4. Exercise boosts your immunity during cold and flu season. Just a few minutes a day can help prevent simple bacterial and viral infections, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

If the winter weather prevents you from getting outside, don’t just reach for the remote. Make your time inside count. There are many ways to get physical activity indoors — no gym required. Hand weights or resistance bands are a great addition, but not necessary. You can also wear a heavy backpack to add intensity to your workout. Some people are afraid to exercise due to health conditions such as a heart attack, poor balance, past injury, etc. But regular physical activity can help reduce your chances of having to face more poor health conditions. If you would like to consult with one of our therapists on what activities may be the best for you this season, schedule an appointment with us today!

Do What’s Good For Your Heart! TIPS FOR BETTER HEART HEALTH

1. Aim for lucky number seven. Young and middle-age adults who sleep 7 hours a night have less calcium in their arteries (an early sign of heart disease) than those who sleep 5 hours or less or those who sleep 9 hours or more.

2. Keep the pressure off. Get your blood pressure checked every 3-5 years if you’re 18-39. If you’re 40 or older, or if you have high blood pressure, check it every year.

3. Move more. To keep it simple, you can aim for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week of moderate exercise. Even if you exercise for 30 minutes a day, being sedentary for the other 23 1/2 hours is really bad for your heart.

4 . Slash saturated fats. To help your heart’s arteries, cut down on saturated fats, which are mainly found in meat and full-fat dairy products. Choose leaner cuts and reduced-fat options.

5 . Find out if you have diabetes. Millions of people don’t know that they have this condition. That’s risky because over time, high blood sugar damages arteries and makes heart disease more likely.
