foundational document that professed to grant life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to all in the United States. As Dolores highlighted, such unalienable rights are not yet fully realized for all. And the pursuit of such rights for individuals are only being hampered by the excessive accumulation of wealth, the corporate capture of our political system, and the challenges to the separation of power. Each one of us benefits from California’s bountiful agricultural production—we truly are the envy of other states and countries. But enjoying that bounty should not come at a cost to those who provide the skill and labor to the industry. Low-income communities and communities of color deserve to live, work, attend school, and play in toxic-free environments, enjoy sound policies and equal access
to services and opportunities, and have their voice heard in the rooms where decisions are made.
I recommend the following organizations that provide direct services and advocacy to the communities who are responsible for the bounty we all enjoy.
