Un hommage à l’ancienne forge importance. Avant la venue des voitures, le transport et les travaux se faisaient beaucoup à l’aide de chevaux, qui devaient protéger leurs sabots. Les fers à cheval étaient parmi l’un des nombreux outils et articles façonnés par le forgeron. À Rockland, la forge était également un lieu de rencontre pour les gens du coin. Il s’agissait d’un lieu d’échange
et de jasette. Les participants à ses jasettes étaient souvent surnommés les membres de la Ligue du vieux poêle. C’est le lieu où ses membres se donnaient rendez-vous. Avec la venue de l’automobile, les forges ont rapidement perdu leur raison d’être. Pour sa part, la forge H. Ménard a cessé ses activités vers les années 1950.

Les générations futures de Rockland se rappelleront du lieu de l’ancienne forge H. (Henri) Ménard, forgeron général, qui se dressait jadis sur la rue Laurier. Des nouveaux condominiums ont pris la place et porteront le nom les Condos de la Forgerie. «Le nom forgerie a été ajouté pour rendre hommage à l’histoire, a confié Mike Gervais, président de l’Association de la construction de Clarence-Rockland. C’est important pour nous de garder un peu l’his- toire de cette entreprise familiale.» Lors de l’inauguration de l’édifice, le jeudi 15 janvier, la famille Ménard était invitée pour souligner l’achèvement. Paul Ménard est un descendant d’Henri Ménard, soit la troisième génération à Rockland. «C’est un honneur que la forge soit conser- vée dans le nom du projet, a souligné Paul Ménard. Nous, c’était la forge qu’on avait ici avec mon grand-père. C’est une belle fleur à l’histoire.» La forge existait depuis le début des années 1900. Le projet les Condos de la Forgerie est l’œuvre de C.H. Clément Construction. Il s’agit d’un projet évalué à environ 2,5 mil- lions $. On y compte 12 condominiums qui ont déjà trouvé preneur.
