TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT THE BACKGROUND OF YOUR COMPANY. Jane’s career first started in fashion during the 1960’s working at Vogue Magazine, which awoke her imagination towards the variety and beauty of textiles. She honed her knowledge for furniture, pictures and colour whilst working for the legendary Christopher Gibbs the antique dealer, who was renowned for his exquisite and curious eye. Another prominent decorator of this time was David Milinaric who described her as having a ‘’rare and magic’’ gift for design, Jane went on to work with David for 10 years. By the late 90’s Jane decided that it was time to
branch out on her own and thus her company JR Design was born. Today JRD’s team comprises of a number of talented designers. They specialise in using colour, texture and materials to achieve a balance of beauty and livability with an original twist. Indeed, this ability to create practical homes, rather than stunning set pieces is a recurring theme in their work. The interiors rarely draw attention to themselves, instead they endeavour to create an atmosphere of quiet confidence that reflects the life and taste of the client. There is something the writer Andrew O’Hagan once said about his friend Jane that perfectly encapsulates her particular type of interiors: ‘’There is no apparent plan, nothing matches, and the design is a secret, like good character is a secret, and the elements come as a heartening surprise, like great conversation.’’ WHAT IS YOUR CUSTOMER PROCESS? The first process in every job is to have an initial consultation and to establish a comfortable relationship with one another for the very intimate and creative process of one’s home. Family requirements are established in order to understand their style preferences and aesthetic likes and dislikes, along with their practical
needs, for example how space is used and its purpose. Realistic financial ranges and project schedules are agreed upon as well as the scope of works, project phases, deliverables and fee structure for the client’s approval.
