Tips For riding Around cars

Biker Basics

You can't predict what'll happen when you're riding on the open road. But you can protect yourself. Ride Smart. Stay Safe.

Motorcycles can be tough to spot and probably aren't at the front of drivers' minds. Staying alert and riding predictably will keep you ready to ride another day. Ride like nobody's watching. • Stay out of blind spots — especially when it comes to larger vehicles. • Signal early and clearly before a lane change or turn. • Watch for cars taking turns or making sudden stops. • Flash your brake light to warn drivers before slowing down or stopping.

• Give your bike a quick check before every ride, ensuring your tires, lights, fluids and cables are in good shape. • All the gear, all the time. Always wear a DOT-approved helmet, eye protection, gloves, boots and protective clothing. • Stick to routes that match your comfort and level of experience. • If you're feeling drowsy, you've been drinking or the weather's looking rough, save it for another day. A good ride starts with good judgment.
