MUNOZ SPECIAL Oscar Munoz and sons (Roberto and Alanso) combined talents to build the family ’38 Chevrolet canopy truck to near perfection. The old work truck now runs a beautiful 216ci Inline-6 with a Wayne 12-port head and dual carbs, a tubular IFS with disc brakes, rack and pinion steering and 13-inch wires. Alanso laid down the flawless black paint and a red- checkered interior in cloth and leather finished the project. Built as a tribute to all the Munoz family, we’d like to thank Oscar for passing his love of all things automotive on to his sons.
DEAN’S MACHINE Dean and Icela
Nesbitt built their ’63 Ford Fairlane Sport Coupe with help from AVS Fabrication. The old
Ford features a 413ci LS powerplant dressed like a 351, a Carbon Edition T56 from Bowler Transmissions, a built chassis with an integral roll cage, a Ron Mangus interior, and gorgeous Crème White paint with flat rust graphics by AVS.
THE THING Ron Jones Garage always shows up with something cool and this year they brought Roger Weihel’s ’71 VW Thing updated with a Porsche 3.0-liter engine punched out to 3.2, a custom front suspension with the front diff from a Porsche, a Porche 996 rear suspension, a fully tubular chassis, a custom body painted baby blue, custom 17-inch five spoke Porsche alloys wrapped in Mickey Thompson rubber and more attitude than any other VW Thing in history.
CHARLIE’S BURNOUT MACHINE The Charles family has owned this ’35 International truck since “Grampa” (CW) bought it new. The truck served as a faithful worker for the Arrow Transfer Co., then it left the company and spent decades pulling sleighs across frozen lakes. In 1980, Bruce and Alex Charles brought the truck back to Washington and turned it into a two-wheel-drive puller and it competed until it was sold. The truck disappeared for a few decades and then the Charles family bought it back and restored it as you see here. The highlights include dual Gen 4 468ci BBCs, a Hughes TH400, a Dale Gerry chassis with chrome-moly Moser rearend and 2,100 horsepower on hand.
