Slonaker Memorial Award by ARP
GRACIE’S GLIDE Beth Myers had Iron Hill Hot Rods build a highly unique ’32 Ford roadster with some great ‘30s vibes. Power comes from a Mercruiser 470 (a 220ci four-banger) with a crank-mounted supercharger, good looks come from a Vintage Color Studio paint job in a Bugatti-style, and the olive green interior was stitched by Sid Chavers.
THE ARDUN KILLER The overwhelming crowd favorite of the Slonaker competition was the ’32 Ford that Cody Walls of Traditional Metalcraft filled with a 272ci Straight-6 wearing a Wayne 12-port head, a 4-inch channeled body, Mikey seats, a seriously chopped shell, chrome everything and a great blue pearl fade paint job.
FAIRWAY 35 There is a lot to love on Greg Heinrich’s ’35 Chevrolet coupe, because Ironworks spent the last 10 years making everything perfect, including putting 500 miles on the rod in bare metal. The ’35 Chevy features an aluminum Donovan SBC with Trick Flow heads, Johnson’s Hot Rods wishbones, torsion bars, Johnson’s Kinmont brakes and a polished quick-change out back. Its menacing look includes a body-wedge section, a top chop, a custom rear window, new lower fender beads, extended rear fenders, reshaped everything, and beautiful Ferrari Dark Blue paint.
SHOWDOWN We fell for Greg PaPaboojian’s slick homebuilt ’73 DeTomaso Pantera as soon as we saw the slick GT40 inspired nose with visible headlamps and big hood vents. The rest of the exterior was outfitted with the later GT5 widebody parts, the gutters were removed, custom lighting was fabricated all around, and custom five-hole wheels were fitted. The now air suspension has been fully built-up featuring Wilwood discs, the stock Ford small-block has been replaced with a 489ci SOHC engine with twin turbos, and the transaxle is now a six- speed unit.
