Show Coverage

We immediately lusted after Thom and Tim Van Pelt’s sweet little ’27 Ford roadster in burgandy with flatty power wearing trips, split wishbones front and rear, a chopped windshield and juice brakes.

Sitting right at the front of the main building was Sid Sullivan’s ’34 Ford from Boise, Idaho. A custom grille featuring Corvette grille teeth, a 6 1/2-inch chop, a 3- inch channel, a 354 Hemi with aluminum heads, Kinmont disc brakes and a Winters quick-change are all highlighted with gorgeous paint.

Bob Wilson campaigned his ’32 Ford roadster at the Bonneville Salt Flats from 2005 to 2008 (176 mph), and now David Gadberry cruises it everywhere. The rod features 1958 Hemi 354ci power, a fully boxed frame, a Halibrand quickie and Sheridan Blue paint by Corey Sanders.

We always enjoy looking around the Suede Palace and we really dug on Kevan Sledge’s barn-fresh ’32 Ford pickup that was chopped, channeled, the bed shortened, and the truck painted and striped by Dean Jefferies in 1958. Later (1997s) it went drag racing perhaps with its current Olds 303 wearing six carbs.

Some of the 50 past winners from the last 75 years included Slonaker Award winners like Brian and Curt Hill in their ’36 Ford Woodie with a horizontal grille, swoopy chop, Foose wheels and much more.

If you’re enjoying an outdoor car show around the first of February, there’s a good chance you’re in Southern California. The GNRS boasts an outdoor show worthy of those on display indoors.
