decked, the license plate frenched-in with style to match the ’61 Ford Galaxy taillights, a hidden gas cap/door installed, and custom nerf bars were fabri- cated for the front. Once Heinzman’s got the old bodywork all straightened out, they laid down the Cadillac Fire Mist Red paint. The interior was com- pletely refreshed and redone with a Flaming River col- umn wearing a LeCarra steering wheel, Autometer gauges, and the door handles were removed with electric poppers installed. A custom rear bench seat was fabricated and a Glide front bench seat was installed before everything was delivered to Doug Winters who stitched the tan vinyl interior. Heinzman’s then wired it all together with a kit from Ron Francis and the Lupellas hit the road again.

Generally, when we buy a car, we never can imag- ine needing another one, but over time we get bored with what we have, see something we think is better, and ultimately sell what was the perfect ride, hopefully for something better (but often not better, just newer). Dave and Sue kept their ’38 through thick and thin and ended up with a great retirement ride they have cruised all over the USA. They have also gone back to the quarter-mile, doing ministry for Racers for Christ with a slick ’55 Chevy Gasser and even being a part of this year’s church service at the Street Rod Nationals North. I’d say be like Dave and Sue, but the truth is some of us always want a different car and some of us never sell our rods. So go out and have a great time rodding your way, just like Dave and Sue.
