Diamond Packaging Named To America’s Climate Leaders List

Board Converting NEWS INTERNET DIRECTORY

Rochester, New York based Diamond Packaging an- nounced that it has been named to USA Today’s list of America’s Climate Leaders 2025. This award, released in celebration of Earth Day, is presented by USA TODAY and Statista Inc. The list recognizes US-based companies that achieved the greatest reduction in their core emissions intensity (Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions per revenue) between 2021 and 2023 with publicly available emissions data and revenue of over $50 million. Other considerations includ- ed tons of CO2 equivalents emitted, total emissions re- duction, disclosure through CDP, and participation in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). “This recognition reinforces Diamond’s leadership in sustainable innovation and emissions reduction,” said Dennis Bacchetta, marketing director and founding mem- ber of Diamond’s Green Team. “As we look to 2025 and beyond, we remain committed to redefining what’s possi- ble in sustainable packaging — through cutting-edge tech- nology, energy-efficient production, and thoughtful design that meets the urgency of climate change.” Diamond reported on its industry-leading greenbox sustainability initiative, the core of which represents a comprehensive approach to packaging that helps mini- mize environmental impact throughout the supply chain. Through creative design, careful material selection, and best practices at the plant level, Diamond can help minimize waste, reduce energy use and emissions, and in- crease efficiencies — all of which support a more sustain- able use of resources and cultivate a positive emotional connection to the brand. In 2007, Diamond committed to purchase clean, renew- able wind energy for 100 percent of its electrical energy requirements, becoming one of the first US-based folding carton suppliers to do so. Diamond purchases 8,400,000 kilowatt hours (kWhs) of renewable energy credits (RECs) annually. In 2021, Diamond announced a multi-year com- mitment to purchase carbon offsets through Climate Ac- tion Reserve (CAR) to reduce its carbon footprint. In 2023, Diamond set new emissions reduction targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. The targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from Di- amond’s operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement. Diamond commits to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions 42 percent by 2030 from a 2022 base year, and to measure and re- duce its Scope 3 emissions. Today, Diamond’s packaging is designed utilizing recy- clable or recycled paperboards and manufactured using 100 percent renewable wind energy, in a Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) and Carbon Neutral facility.

ing “efforts to reduce waste, energy consumption, and environmen- tal impact, as well as the implementation of eco-friendly materials and processes.” The new nyloflex eco series, specifically the nyloflex eco ACT D and nyloflex eco FAC D, have been developed for high-quality flexo printing on absorbent and non-absorbent substrates (paper, board, kraft liner, test liner, etc.) using water- and solvent-based inks. The plates are suit- ed for a whole range of fiber-based packaging applications including folding carton and corrugated post-print. The eco plate formulation features up to 29 percent bio-based raw materials, and nyloflex eco plates reportedly dry fast, saving process- ing time by 20 percent.
