PROFITABLE CONNECTIONS
June 2024
LAUGHTER AND VALOR Celebrating Our Fathers and Grandfathers
History is worth preserving, especially given what those who came before us went through. Our forefathers sacrificed a great deal for us to be where we are today. At Rise25, we take pride in exploring our family histories and connecting with loved ones through the art of podcasting. That’s why we enjoy recording podcast episodes where we interview our family members; it serves as a memento of our loved ones and the connection we share. Dr. Jeremy Weisz and I started working together in 2008, over 15 years ago. That seems like a long time on the surface, but in truth, our family’s connection began long before that. Our grandfathers never met, but they persevered through a period when survival seemed impossible . In honor of Father’s Day this June 16, we would like to give you a glimpse into the lives of our fathers and grandfathers and how their experiences helped give rise to our wonderful partnership. Accomplishing the Unattainable World War II was an amalgamation of horror, tragedy, and sacrifice, connecting millions of families around the globe in a shared struggle to survive and defeat horrific evils. Although they never met, our grandfathers shared a bond during this conflict. Jeremy’s grandfather, David Danyzyger, was born in Bedzin, Poland, in 1923. David was the oldest of six children and, during the war, was forced to bear witness to his mother and four of his
siblings' deportation to Auschwitz in 1941 before he and his brother were taken to Markstadt labor camp. He was pressed into labor at multiple concentration camps, including Klettendorf, Gross- Rosen, Flossenburg, and Dachau. Despite experiencing and witnessing appalling cruelty and hardship, David overcame all temptation to give up; instead, he chose to live . David survived against all odds — a grim similarity he and John Corcoran Sr., my grandfather and namesake, shared. Nicknamed the “Flying Fortress,” B-17s were American heavy bombers used extensively during World War II. In the first year of the bombing campaign over Germany, only 36% of B-17 crews completed the 25 missions required to earn the right to return home. As a B-17 captain and pilot, my grandfather, John Harriman Corcoran Sr., flew 35 missions over Nazi Germany during the war. He braved the skies, constantly harried by bursts of flak and fighter planes, to help end the worst conflict in the history of humanity. Stoicism and Survival The juxtaposition of my father and grandfather was readily apparent growing up. My grandpa was a stoic veteran, and my dad was a gregarious standup comedian. While my grandpa had a steady, storied career first in the Army Air Force, then the Air Force, before joining the Pentagon as a civilian, my father opted for a much less secure career trajectory. My dad
instead chose a career as a movie critic, entertainer, and interviewer. As the son of an Air Force officer, he had to move around the country frequently; likewise, my family had to move around the country when Dad would lose his job — which happened three times growing up. However, my dad was chasing his dream, which was only possible because of his father’s sacrifice. I feel I have followed in both my father's and grandfather’s footsteps, working to preserve their legacies while also carving out one of my own. By helping to build strong connections between business leaders, we not only empower communities but also honor our grandfathers’ and my father’s legacies — and all those who sacrificed so much of their lives for us.

THE POWER OF PERSUASION Masterful Tactics and Costly Mistakes for Deal Closers
Mistakes Avoid cliches and problematic phrases. Salespeople toss around common phrases and
As a sales associate or sales manager, it is a great feeling when a client agrees to a face-to-face meeting to discuss your product or service. While this initial success is exciting, it is not the end of the road. Don’t celebrate prematurely — your real challenge has just begun. Familiarize yourself with these tactics and common mistakes to ensure your meeting goes smoothly and concludes with a positive outcome.
pitches all the time, both in the office and in movies, commercials, and TV shows. Despite their prevalence, many are counterproductive when used in meetings and can actually undermine trust between a salesperson and their client. One example is introducing a new topic by saying “to be honest” or “to be frank”; these phrases may unintentionally signal that your preceding information was less than genuine. Likewise, saying “trust me” will only make them do the opposite. Speak clearly, and avoid overplayed phrases and cliches to improve your odds of success. No one likes homework. While giving your client a meeting agenda can be a kind and professional gesture, handing them documents equivalent in length and
Tactics Establish the client’s goals and priorities.
Your client is meeting with you for a reason: They are interested in your services. Rather than diving right into your pitch, try to understand your client’s point of view and desired outcome. Developing a rapport and speaking to them as equals can win their respect and improve your chances of closing. Respect their time and prepare accordingly. Start and end your meeting on time. Your client will have planned their time around the meeting, and
complexity to a college dissertation will only confuse and bore them. If they are interested in additional information,
you should do the same. If you notice you are over your scheduled time, consider cutting your pitch short and ending the meeting on a respectful note. Additionally, start your meeting with strategic engagement and introduce your most important and persuasive points first. Soften contract language. Reviewing a contract, and especially signing one, can be intimidating. Instead of introducing the paperwork as a “contract,” pose it as an “agreement” or simply as “paperwork.” It is less intimidating for a client to sign “paperwork” rather than a “contract,” although they are effectively the same thing.
they will ask, or you can steer the conversation in a way that introduces it organically.
Closing a deal is more of an art form than a science, but that does not mean we cannot prepare ourselves and act appropriately to maximize our chances of success. We can increase our profits and convert more leads into sales by employing the appropriate methods.

If your primary audience is millennials, you
create a strong visual appeal. The number of posts you produce also needs to be consistent. Post on social media daily to grow your organic reach or audience views outside advertisements. So, by intentionally crafting a global marketing strategy, you can expand your reach and achieve the sales success of your dreams. These four ideas — strategy, energy, consistency, and production — can take your brand to the next level. Strategy One of the main things to remember while strategizing your marketing plan for expansion is that how many eyes you have on your brand or business is more important than how you create sales. Strive for brand awareness, where customers know your name and understand the message, products, and feelings your brand evokes. The sooner you can establish trust and a connection with your customers, the quicker they will buy from you and return. Energy Jordan says, “Show up as if you have already gone global.” Keeping an energetic momentum going is vital to effective marketing.
