CHECKOUT WITH INSTAGRAM Facebook is heavily investing in e-commerce with its latest offering, “Checkout with Instagram.” This new feature will allow Instagram users to browse and purchase offerings from 23 top brands in the U.S. and is said that it could add $10 billion in revenue for Facebook in 2021. Facebook is said to be added this new feature to make its Instagram platform a more efficient place for social media users to shop and buy all within the apps and it is expected that many new brands and retailers will seek to quickly add their products to the feature.
INVESTING IN MEATLESS MEAT Maple Leaf Foods Inc., the Canadian meat processing empire, is pushing further into the meatless business announcing that it plans to spend US$310 million to build a 230,000-sq.-ft. processing plant in Shelbyville, Indiana. The new plant will double Maple Leaf’s capacity to make meat alternatives, including its Lightlife Burger, which is a new challenger to the popular Beyond Meat Burger made famous in Canada by A&W’s recent ad campaign.
Maple Leaf said the new facility will be the largest of its kind in North America.
