The goal for graduate programs in the College of Professional Studies (CPS) is to create and maintain sustainable programs that provide high quality instruction and professional preparation for our students. CPS provides a diverse array of online, hybrid and face to face programs for adult non- traditional students seeking professional development which can lead to licensure depending on the program. Three distinct budget models are utilized in the fiscal management of CPS graduate programs: 1. State appropriated (fund 102) that utilize a combination state appropriation and tuition dollars to operate. 2. Collaborative degree (fund 189) operated by UW-Extension who collects tuition and distributes a share back to participating campuses to pay operating costs. 3. Cost recovery (fund 131) which generates enough tuition revenue to cover the costs – both departmental and university – incurred in the annual operation of the program. 4. SUMMARY

The College of Professional Studies demonstrated another strong performance in graduate education in FY2 2 . The College of Professional Studies is home to 86% of all UWSP graduate students, 260 graduate students completed their degrees, and the college added the doctorate in Physical Therapy. The M.S. in Athletic Training enrolled cohort #4, and the Ed.D. enrolled its sixth cohort by the end of the fiscal year with 28 students – a record enrollment for the young program. The College of Professional Studies continued to invest in the start-up of new programs. Preliminary research and market studies for a Doctor of Occupational Therapy began. The Doctor of Physical Therapy program successfully completed their accreditation review from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education and started their first cohort in May 2022 with 34 student. The Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.), M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, M.S. in Education, M.S. in Community and Organizational Leadership, M.S. in Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems, and teacher certification in Family and Consumer Sciences continue to see healthy enrollments. CPS continued participation in collaborative offerings though UW Extension including the M.S. in Health Care Administration and the M.S. in Health and Wellness Management.

In addition to the two collaboratives, and two state-funded degree programs, CPS operates eight programs as cost recovery. Cost-recovery budgeting carries risk, however, when operated successfully it can be a source of additional revenues. Programs that utilize a cost recovery-budget collect their own tuition and are responsible for their own expenses, and 3 6 % overhead (20% UWSP, 6% CPS, 10% school ); and to be successful they must be operated like a business. Successful cost recovery programs require flexibility and agility; and must respond quickly to student needs and market demands. Cost recovery programs in CPS include: • Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Certification • Health and Wellness Coaching Certificate • M.S. in Athletic Training • Master of Business Administration • M.S. in Community and Organizational Leadership/ Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems • M.S. in Education (includes teacher certifications) • Ed.D. in Educational Sustainability • Doctor of Physical Therapy Net revenues of cost recovery programs are reinvested to support student success (i.e. additional writing support for thesis and dissertation), instructional delivery, funding to support additional graduate assistants above the campus allocation, and to meet professional requirements such as

professional development and accreditation. Net revenues are used to market and build contingency funds should enrollments decrease; and to manage market or other external factors such as we’ve experienced with COVID-19. Net revenues are also used by Schools to build start-up funding for the development of new programs. It is important that cost recovery programs remain fiscally sound. CPS ensures fiscal responsibility through regular financial assessment and monitoring; and by actively managing each of several factors that contribute to the fiscal health of each program. Each program has a unique set of factors that contribute to program solvency that must be actively managed. Factors that impact fiscal health and drive CPS decision-making include: Market Factors • Market evaluation to determine customer availability and project enrollments, interests and needs to aid in content development, learning preferences to determine mode of delivery (online, hybrid, face-to-face). • Competitor evaluation to determine the competitive landscape and look critically at market saturation, identify a niche, and determine competitive tuition pricing.

Cost Factors • Start-up costs, which could include facility remodeling, accreditation fees, and faculty salaries necessary prior to the program start date. • Cost per Student Credit Hour (SCH) analysis, to determine program operating costs such as instruction (faculty and adjunct salaries), administration, labs and supplies, student support services, and 3 6 % overhead costs ( 20 % UWSP, 6% CPS, 10% school ). Efficiency Factors • Class size to project the average class size needed to cover costs • Course fill rates • Overall enrollments where higher volumes can lower costs • Course frequency • Innovative delivery strategies such as utilizing instructional assistants or GAs to lower costs • Stackable “add-ons” such as certificates that align with graduate degrees and serve to fill courses and recruit students Revenue Factors • Tuition is the basic source of revenue set at competitive and fiscally solvent levels. Managing tuition requires monitoring and the ability to adjust tuitions when necessary. • Fees, which can account for administrative costs and lab supplies.

INNOVATIVE CERTIFICATION ACCELERATED SPECIAL EDUCATION LICENSURE

Marketing is a key factor to successful student recruitment and retention in CPS graduate programs. The programs are autonomous in the marketing tactics they implement, but many programs operate utilizing similar methods by which to reach their audiences. These include but are not limited to: • Alumni contact • Billboards • Conference attendance as exhibitors and presenters • Information sessions • Inquiry forms • Online ads • Print advertising • Radio • Social and online media (Google, Facebook, LinkedIn etc) • Word of mouth The 100% online programs have received additional marketing support from the growth initiative, allowing programs to expand reach to audiences in different ways.

The CWIC (“quick”) program is ideal for those who have a non-teaching bachelor’s degree and are either teaching special education with a license with stipulations (emergency license), or want a career change to impact students.

PROGRAM SNAPSHOT SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY Program Description: The mission of the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology graduate program in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is to provide a foundation of professional preparation in speech-language pathology. Students will engage in critical thinking by integrating the evidence base into clinical practice. Students will develop the necessary knowledge and skills to competently assess and treat individuals with communication, cognition, and/or swallowing disorders from diverse backgrounds in a variety of community and work settings. The program is designed to promote a healthy and thriving community by serving and advocating for the people of Central Wisconsin.

PROGRAM SNAPSHOT DOCTOR OF AUDIOLOGY (Au.D.) Program Description: The mission of the Wisconsin Au.D. PROGRAM SNAPSHOT EDUCATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY (Ed.D.)

Program Description: The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Sustainability program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is 100% online and designed for working professionals from interdisciplinary fields in sustainability. The program will prepare graduates to be educators and leaders who hold a passion for transforming systems of teaching and learning. The curriculum is intended to provide students the opportunity to actively engage in coursework, research and professional practice in the field of sustainability. For the purpose of the degree, sustainability is broadly defined using the six core principles. Students can explore sustainability in one or more of these principles to personalize learning in the program. Highlights: T here have been 24 students who have successfully defended so far in the Ed.D. program. T he largest cohort ever was admitted to the Ed.D. in May 2022, with 28 students enrolling, and a total of 70 doctoral students attending the annual summer residency. Faculty in the Ed.D. program also developed a 12-credit certificate in Equity and Inclusion which students can incorporate into their elective credit load, or students external to the program can take for added professional development.

Key Partnerships: Mosinee, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids Public School Districts. Highlights: With the high demand for teachers in the state of Wisconsin, the School of Education moved quickly and intentionally to develop an Accelerated Certification in Elementary Education (ACEE) which launched in May 2022. An additional 15 credit certificate in Trauma and Resilience was also established, in partnership with the Department of Social Work.

PROGRAM SNAPSHOT COL & SRFS Program Descriptions: The Master of Science in Community and Organizational Leadership provides graduates with expertise in innovative community development and development of skills in leadership, program planning, grant writing, and critical thinking so they can make an impact in your community. The Master of Science in Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems provides graduates with expertise in food systems and community nutrition as well as the skills needed to lead positive change in communities and organizations. Highlights: • We created a template in Canvas for our grad courses • We identified program learning outcomes and have a plan for year 1 assessment • We offered for the first time the new required capstone courses, 791 and 792, to provide all students with the opportunity to apply the core program competencies in their community

Program Description: The UW-Stevens Point MBA is not like other MBAs. Our focus is YOUR skill development. It’s not just theory; it’s practical, useful and career-ready. Classes are developed by educators with industry experience to meet employers’ needs. You will gain marketable skills in the most sought-after areas of business including analytics, communication, economics, finance, leadership, management and marketing. PROGRAM SNAPSHOT ATHLETIC TRAINING Program Description: The UW-Stevens Point athletic training program provides students with opportunities that utilize classroom and real-life experiences so students become valued athletic training professionals. Students are evaluated on skills and knowledge throughout each experience and receive feedback to encourage growth and improvement. To achieve certification in athletic training, students must graduate from a CAATE-accredited athletic training program and pass a national Board of Certification (BOC) examination. Highlights: • Sense Arena: We secured a large donation from Sense Arena and are in collaborations with this company and Charles University in Prague for continued research on virtual reality. • Continuing to expand the MS-AT into the community with the start of PLAY (Pointers Leading Active Youth). We have developed a program that is offered at UWSP for 4K-5th grade students to learn the importance of proper movement. We have established a relationship with the Stevens Point Area Public School District to offer the course as part of the summer school curriculum which will be led by our MS-AT students. • Graduating our first cohort: The MS-AT has completed one full cohort for our program and are proud of them and what they have accomplished.

PROGRAM SNAPSHOT PHYSICAL THERAPY (DPT) Program Description: The UW-Stevens Point DPT program is a developing program. The program will emphasize developing the physical therapist who has the knowledge, skills and abilities to practice in the unique environments our rural communities offer. The program will enroll the first cohort in June of 2022*. The program is a 2.5-year program, with students taking classes year-round. PROGRAM SNAPSHOT HEALTHCARE ADMINISTRATION Program Description: As a health and wellness coach, you will guide individuals during their transformative journey of achieving lasting changes and enhanced well-being by helping them overcome hurdles, surpass limitations and tap into their own unrealized personal and professional potential. Highlights: Sharon Frazier (MSHCA 700 instructor) gets students off to a solid start in the graduate program. She has been commended for her responsiveness & attentiveness to student needs; while setting both reasonable, but high expectations for graduate student academic performance and engagement in both the course and program. Sharon also continually seeks ways to improve the student experience, and coursework connections with the rest of program curriculum. Graduate students often select UWSP for a variety of reasons: a) were undergraduate alumni; b) children/relatives where UWSP alumni; c) centralized location and close to home compared to other potential “home campus’ locations for shared program”; and d) appreciate and desire fully online course offerings for degree completion. Collaborative campus partners (the academic program directors) are a solid and cohesive unit focused on developing, delivering, evaluating and modifying high quality curriculum focused on the unique needs associated with rural communities for providing high quality care to individuals, families and groups living there.

PROGRAM SNAPSHOT FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES Program Description: The family and consumer sciences graduate-level certification program will provide opportunities for licensed teachers to add a new license in the area of family and consumer sciences. In addition, people who hold a bachelor’s degrees can gain coursework for FCS teacher licensure, in a condensed format. The program will provide the opportunity for: • Teachers already licensed in a discipline other than family and consumer sciences to gain certification in FCS education. • Licensed teachers to move forward in their PDP while attaining an additional certification. • Participants to dovetail required credits with our existing master’s programs in Community and Organizational Leadership and Education. • Individuals who hold a non-teaching bachelor’s degree to gain coursework for FCS teacher licensure, in a condensed format, while completing additional requirements for an initial teaching license. Highlights: The FCS teacher certification saw a 133% increase in enrollment from the previous fiscal year. This growth can be attributed to high-touch student experience during the recruitment process as well as our ability to recruit out-of-state students under the Service Based Pricing Model. Students who have completed the program often recommend it to other teachers based on their experience.

PROGRAM SNAPSHOT HEALTH AND WELLNESS COACHING Program Description: As a health and wellness coach, you will guide individuals during their transformative journey of achieving lasting changes and enhanced well-being by helping them overcome hurdles, surpass limitations and tap into their own unrealized personal and professional potential. The UWSP - NWI Health and Wellness Coaching Certificate Program is dedicated to preparing students to become professional Health and Wellness Coaches, including preparing students for eligibility to become a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBCHWC). Our focus is to ensure the highest level of student training, engagement and satisfaction while also meeting and exceeding credentialing requirements set by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaches (NBHWC). The NBHWC has collaborated with the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) since 2016 to provide a robust board certification examination which has led to more than 3,000 National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coaches that hold the NBC-HWC credential. The esteemed NBC-HWC credential represents training, education, and assessment standards, allowing for the profession to advance in all aspects of healthcare and wellness. Highlights: The Health and Wellness Coaching Certificate is designed as a collaborative initiative between the School of Health Promotion and Human Development (now the School of Health Sciences and Wellness), and UWSP Continuing Education. The program launched its inaugural year with 28 students admitted, 23 students enrolled, and 20 students successfully completing. The success of our program is critically dependent on the quality of our partnerships and collaborations Most notable of these is the National Wellness Institute (NWI), with whom we are co-branded. The NWI is instrumental in broadening awareness of our program in the wellness and public market. They are also a NBHWC approved continuing education provider. This creates a key strategic alliance in building student/ graduate continued professional development and community. Other collaborations with external stakeholders include Ascension Health, Arizona State University, Point Loma San Diego University and West Virginia University.
