A Note From Sylvia April is one of my favorite months of the year. As spring begins to take hold across Minnesota, our programming invites you to explore renewal in all its forms — through music, nature, and stories that connect us to one another and to our planet. This month, we are especially proud to release our newest history documentary, The Wild West Bank Sound , premiering Tuesday, April 21 during Minnesota Music Month. Produced by Twin Cities PBS’s Daniel Bergin and Kevin Dragseth, this film celebrates the rich musical legacy of the West Bank neighborhood of Minneapolis, and the artists, venues, and community stories that helped shape Minnesota’s music identity. The West Bank has long been a gathering place where cultures intersect, creativity flourishes, and music carries the spirit of community. The Wild West Bank Sound captures that energy and preserves it for new generations. It’s a reminder that public media plays a vital role in telling the stories of our neighborhoods and amplifying unique voices and perspectives. I hope you will tune in and celebrate this extraordinary chapter of Minnesota’s cultural history with us. April is also Earth Month, and we are honoring our planet’s beauty, resilience, and the very real challenges it faces. On April 1, the powerful two-part series Our New World sets the stage by examining unprecedented planetary upheaval and how humans, plants, and animals are adapting in remarkable ways to survive. On April 22, we present NOVA: Rain Bombs , an exploration of extreme weather events intensified by human activity. With science at its core, this program helps us understand the forces reshaping our climate, and what they mean for communities everywhere. Thank you for making this work possible. Your support allows us to produce meaningful local films, bring world-class programming to our community, and create space for thoughtful conversations about the issues that shape our lives.

We may not all be producers or editors, but we are part of the creative process. Every gift is a spark that fuels the next idea, the next breakthrough, the next moment of wonder. And in return, Twin Cities PBS offers something extraordinary: a liberal education in the truest sense — not political but rooted in the idea of educating free citizens to be thoughtful, informed, and engaged.”

An Excerpt from the Twin Cities PBS FY25 Report to the Community
September 1, 2024 – December 31, 2025
Fiscal Year In Review
Celebrating Founder’s Society Members Leadership gifts of $50,000 or more provide resources to help engage, inform, and inspire our communities. Thank you!
Because of you, in FY25, Twin Cities PBS: • Delivered trusted, local journalism and civic engagement during a year when access to credible information mattered more than ever. • Expanded learning resources and educator training to ensure students, teachers, and caregivers had the tools to navigate a changing information landscape. • Deepened our investment in local storytelling, preserving and sharing Minnesota’s history, arts, and culture at a time when local perspectives needed amplification. • Brought people together — online, on-air, and in- person — demonstrating that connection is a powerful public service.
September 1, 2024 – August 31, 2025 In FY25, Twin Cities PBS advanced our mission during one of the most consequential moments in our organization’s history. Even as public media faced challenges across the nation — including the loss of federal funding and closure of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) — our community affirmed something powerful: Minnesotans believe in public media, and they believe in Twin Cities PBS. With the support of viewers, members, educators, and partners, we continued to deliver trusted programming, educational leadership, and local storytelling that strengthens our region. FY25 was defined not only by uncertainty, but also by resilience, innovation, and a groundswell of community support that made one theme abundantly clear: Public media matters here.

Minneapolis’ West Bank neighborhood was once an epicenter of the music world. From the 60s through the 90s, from Folk and Blue Grass to Reggae and Alt Rock, stories from those who lived the scene are illustrated with rare and rich archival photos and footage in this funky flashback about the local musical legends and legendary music venues of Minneapolis’ West Bank/Cedar Riverside neighborhood.
