Convocation Speaker Allyson Larkin Tuesday, June 18, 2024, 3:00 p.m.
Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Italy and the Dominican Republic which focus on community development, literacy, migration, citizenship and education. She has developed a number of international experiential learning programs at King’s that provide students with opportunities for research and encounters with global development work. She is currently working on research that explores cross cultural conflict transformation and peace building with youth. Allyson Larkin lives in London and Toronto with her family, including her partner, four adult children and three dogs.
Allyson Larkin is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Social Justice and Peace Studies Department, Acting Chair for Disabilities Studies and Co-Director of the Centre for Social Concern at King’s University College at Western University. She was born and raised in New York City, NY, and came to King’s University College in 2009. She earned an MA in History and a PD in Urban Education Policy Studies from Fordham University and completed a PhD at Western University in Education Studies. Her research interests explore the questions of global education policy, international development and ethics. For her PhD research, she completed her research in Tanzania, exploring the impact of global education programs within rural communities, complicated by the HIV/Aids crisis and the ethical challenges of humanitarian work. For the past three decades, in addition to teaching and researching, she has worked on a number of international development projects in locations which include Guatemala, Paraguay, Mexico,
