Role purpose

The post will be based with the Real Estate Team at the James Clark Maxwell Building (Waterloo Campus) however it is a requirement of employment that the post holder be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the College either on an ongoing or temporary basis. The post holder will be required to travel regularly between the main site base and other College premises. This post is a key post within the Estates & Facilities Department Senior Management Team and reports directly to the Director of Real Estate. The Director of Real Estate Development will take lead responsibility for the development and delivery of the College’s £100m+ p.a. real estate development programme.

Key responsibilities and objectives of the job.

• To lead in the management of the Estates & Facilities Department’s development programme and to represent the Director of Real Estate when called upon to do so.

• To be responsible for the management of specific the projects and of the Project Managers and other development professionals, comprising surveyors, other employed staff (either temporary or permanent) to provide a professional Project Management and Development Management service to the College in the acquisition, management and disposal, provision of new buildings, refurbishment and improvement of its estate.

• To provide professional advice to the College in respect of all development matters as required for time to time.

• To establish and manage the effective delivery of a variable new build and refurbishment programme of his / her projects to ensure the operation and planning of the College Estate. It will be expected that the post holder will take responsibility for project management and other development staff and consultants to ensure the delivery of a project management and service on budget, to an agreed standard programme. • To lead and manage the delivery of capital projects across the Development division to include a consistent approach to capital project delivery, including the management of consultants and contractors and proactively managing supplier performance. • To take specific responsibility for student residences schemes and offices for professional services staff and the effective management of staff, consultants and financial resources to ensure the College meets its Real Estate obligations whilst achieving value for money.

• To be responsible for all Health and Safety matters on construction sites and buildings.
