would be for any baseball game was a lucky find because the food booths were mostly located in close proximity along the right- field fence, making the many trips to feast on the variety of delicious foods quick and easy. Herbert Hong also attended Touch, and, with his daughter Rebecca Thibodeau ’99 , stopped by to chat.

Reunion Gatherings from the Class of 1964

Illustrating the all-class reunion nature of A Touch of ‘Iolani, Christopher and Corilyn renewed friendships with alumni from their era while Courtland visited Ken Lee ’61 at his table as well as Lisa Leu — sister of Lester Leu ’74 — and her daughter, Chelsea Wong ’05 . Lester had played a key part in helping arrange for funeral services in St. Alban’s for Benjamin Almadova ’51 , grandfather of Breland Almadova ’09 . Lester and Courtland had become friends with Ben during the making of the ‘Iolani Raiders Boosters Club’s One Team documentary. Ben played three sports for ‘Iolani’s legendary Father Bray, including wide receiver on the ILH championship team during his senior year. Courtland mustered enough courage to speak about remembrances of Ben from the same St. Alban’s lectern where we were used to seeing Father Coon or Headmaster MacLean speak. Also present was Gordon Lee ’63, brother of our classmate Steven Lee. Sadly, David Yamashiro ’51 , the running back of that championship team, joined Father Bray’s celestial team shortly after Ben did. That team’s quarterback, Frank Kahoohanohano ’51 , attended services for both Ben and Dave. The magic of Christmas brought our class- mates together from far and wide as we exchanged greetings and remembrances, with several commenting on their Christmas weather and even sending photos. Bruce Perkins in North Carolina shared that it (L-R) Rebecca Thibodeau ’99, Claire Pang, Corilyn Pang ’01, Margaret Onaka, Herbert Hong ’65, Alvin Onaka ’65, Courtland Pang ’65, and Christopher Onaka ‘97 enjoying A Touch of ‘Iolani.

which is always a fabulous foodie event for all to enjoy. Hope to see more classmates there in the future. The final event was the Class of 1964 Luncheon on August 4 at Gyotaku Japanese Restaurant on King Street. Some of you may remember it as being Suehiro restaurant in 1964. The intimate venue facilitated many past histories and current endeavors and was enjoyed by all 21 classmates and their significant others. As we near our 80 th birthdays, some of you have expressed the desire to reconnect more often to keep in touch. A get-together with some sort of travel event was mentioned. Mainland classmates have expressed a desire to incorporate an outer island trip since they’re coming from afar anyway. This is predicated by the fact that we have lost about a quarter of our classmates so far. Any ideas?

We pray for the safety and well-being of our classmates living in the suburbs of Los Angeles where wildfires raged and mourn the passing of classmate Roy Watanabe in New Jersey. The ongoing construction of the new Arrillaga Student Center caused the most recent A Touch of ‘Iolani to be held on the school’s baseball outfield. There, deep against the center field fence, was where Alvin Onaka and Courtland Pang were lucky to find a table. They were accompanied by spouses Margaret and Claire and family ‘Iolani alumni Christopher Onaka ’ 97 and Corilyn Pang ’01 .The table out where the cheap seats
