Steve Uejio was recently inducted into the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Colleges 2025 Athletics Hall of Fame. He played four seasons on the CMS baseball team, earning Team MVP honors in his final three seasons. Steve added all-league honors in 1998, 1999, and 2000 and all-region honors all four years, from 1997 to 2000. He is the CMS all-time leader in home runs (36), total bases (393), slugging percentage (.691), and runs scored (172). Congrats Steve! ’ 97 Class Representative SHANNON ASATO shanasato@gmail.com Following a 56-106 season record in 2023, the Kansas City Royals Assistant Hitting Coach Keoni DeRenne had a lot of work to do to turn the team’s upcoming season around. With the addition of seven free-agent signings prior to 2024, the revamped Royals, on paper, looked ready to compete for a wide-open division title. From the very first to very last game of the season, Kansas City competed all year long with rivals the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers. Although the team didn’t win the division, the Royals qualified for a post- season berth, its first since 2015.

Its season record of 86-76, plus a Wild Card series win over the Baltimore Orioles, put the Royals in the history books as the first team ever to lose 100-plus games and win a post- season series the following year. The Royals’ season came to an end on October 10, 2024, at the hands of eventual American League Champions the New York Yankees in a three games to one series.
