Groundbreaking and Blessing for the Arrillaga Student Center

On August 21, more than 200 guests, including faculty, staff, the Board of Governors, leadership donors, and building team leaders, attended the groundbreaking and blessing ceremony for the new Arrillaga Student Center. Event speakers included four student readers, Head of School Dr. Timothy Cottrell, and Chairman of the Board of Governors Dr. Mark Mugiishi ’77. City and County of Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi spoke about the many ways the Arrillaga Student Center will serve thousands of students and families in the community and shared memories of knowing Coach Hamada and ways 'Iolani School has positively impacted his family. Construction on the beautiful new addition to our campus will continue for the next 15 months with the three-story, 60,000-square-foot center set to open in spring 2026.

6th Grade Orientation The Class of 2031 kicked off their sixth-grade year with an inspiring orientation day on August 27 perfectly aligning with this year’s Lower School theme, "Building Bridges." With 80 new students joining, the day focused on connection, understanding, and collaboration through icebreakers, games, and team-building exercises. Students bonded, found common ground, and met their new teachers who will support them throughout the school year. With nine homerooms full of eager learners, the excitement and optimism for the year ahead was strong. The sixth-grade orientation marked the start of a journey uniting students and teachers as One Team to build a supportive and connected community.
