Stage Band Winter Concert Delivers a Jazzy Holiday Celebration The ‘Iolani Stage Bands and Tam Young Jazz Combo dazzled the audience at Seto Hall on December 15 with a mix of jazz standards and festive holiday tunes. The Tam Young Jazz Combo showcased their advanced skills, while Stage Band Two impressed with their enthusiasm, especially in their crowd-favorite performance of “You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” Stage Band 3 closed the evening with an electrifying set featuring Count Basie’s “Splanky” and “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” spreading holiday cheer through dynamic and skillful jazz performances.

Annual Orchestra and Choir Winter Concert

The annual Christmas Concert featuring Orchestra Five and the Upper School Chorus brought festive cheer to the Lower Gym in December. Highlights included Orchestra Five’s “Jölly Old Variations,” the choir’s lively performance of “Merry Christmas” led by Kai Cuskaden ’26, and a grand finale of “Sleigh Ride” by the ‘Iolani Symphonic Orchestra. The performance also featured selections from the choir’s Winter Concert and a stunning performance of Gyorgy Orban’s “Balzene Suite for Strings.” It was a joyful celebration of music, tradition, and holiday spirit!

Lower School Robotics Shines at State Championship

On December 15, the Lower School Robotics Team competed in the FIRST LEGO League State Championship at McKinley High School, earning praise for its innovative invasive species food truck and outreach program, Hana Wai. Judges were treated to a gourmet meal featuring deep-fried ta‘ape with pickled ogo and lomi tomato salad, prepared on-site. After a day of intense competition, the team placed 11th out of 50 teams in the FLL Challenge. Amazing job, ‘Iobotics!
