To ensure our certification standards correspond appropriately with our developing ICT industry, BICSI will be updating its CEC Program Policy for credential holders. The forthcoming newly named Credential Holder Recertification Policy introduces greater flexibility, recognizes additional professional contributions, and offers new ways to earn continuing education credits (CECs). Earning categories expand to incorporate more continuing education opportunities, BICSI and affiliate events, ICT-related academic courses, and required professional ethics courses. Professional contributions now include BICSI speaking, BICSI volunteering, and BICSI membership credits. Innovative learning formats are updated to encompass blended learning, micro/nano learning (which can earn CECs in 15-minute increments), virtual instructor-led training, and web- based training.

*For example: RCDD® – 30 CECs minimum for continuing education; maximum of 15 for speaking and volunteering combined. Also, Legacy certifications, such as RITP, NTS, WD, ESS, and INST2®, retain their CEC requirements for continuing education and a new ethics requirement.

How did you get started in the ICT industry?

I moved over from being a residential electrician with the union when the housing market went down into sound and comm and followed along with it.

What’s been the most important BICSI course for you?

Probably the Installer 2 Fiber and the Technician courses.

What value has BICSI brought to your career?

It’s offered me a great deal of training and understanding of how a lot of the systems I’ve been installing work.

What advice could you give someone starting in the ICT industry? Spend as much time as possible learning the different systems that are out there and just keep learning.
