To The Hive
The Hive is our student-run coffee and snack shop, proudly operated by our self- contained LLD and Autism classes. This school-based enterprise is more than just a shop—it’s a hands-on learning experience that helps our students develop essential life and vocational skills. Through their participation, students develop independence, communication, and teamwork, all while running a small business right here at school! Here’s what our students gain from The Hive: Job Skills – Students apply for positions of interest, interview for the job, take inventory, restock supplies, and practice responsibility in a real-world setting. Social & Communication Skills – They practice scripts to appropriately interact with peers and staff, building confidence and interpersonal skills. Money & Math Skills – Managing sales, counting change, and budgeting. Community-Based Instruction (CBI) – Students go on trips to places like Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s to restock supplies, giving them real-world shopping experience.
