John Adams Middle School
PLAY UNIFIED
John Adams Play Unified, advised by Ms. Roth and Ms. Hopkins, has so many fun things going on! Last month they had their trip to the Metuchen Sportsplex where the Play Unified teams from all four middle schools played kickball and soccer together. The team also took a trip to Woodrow Wilson to play a volleyball match against their Play Unified team. They are looking forward to March, when they will have a bowling trip with all four middle schools!
NEW ELECTIVES
STUDENT ENTERPRISE
In the Student Enterprise elective, run by Mr. Dailey, students have been exploring the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, developing creative problem-solving skills and conducting research. Moving forward, the students will explore finance, learning about budgeting, managing expenses, and securing funding for a business.
STEM
The new STEM elective, run by Mrs. Turner and Mr.
Bravo, is off to a great start! Students are currently being
introduced to the Engineering and Design Process and utilizing the process to create paper airplanes! Next, students will be exploring different careers in STEM. In honor of STEM month in March, students will be able to present their career and creation in a science fair style presentation.
MIC DROP
The first semester of mic drop was a hit! Taught by Mr. Peach, students learned the art of public speaking, improv, script writing, podcasting, and creating and editing video projects. Students worked on these skills using various projects on topics of their own choosing. It’s always a great time in Mic Drop!
STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD
JAMS recently launched a new initiative - the Middle School Student Advisory Board. Made up of students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, the group is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming school environment. The advisory board, led by Assistant Principal Mr. Blekeski, along with teachers Mrs. Osmond, Ms. Queenan, and Mr. Coyle, will lead efforts to make the school a place where all students feel welcomed, heard, and inspired to participate fully.
