John Adams Middle School hosted its annual Musicalathon on February 6th with the entire music department participating! The fundraising event was kicked off by 5th grade orchestra students from JMI and MLK elementary schools. The JAMS orchestra students, led by Mrs. Montana, performed next playing some rocking tunes and finished the orchestra portion of the evening with a combined piece, 5th grade through 8th grade students performing together! Then the JAMS Chorus students performed, led by Mr. Borja, in the cafeteria serenading audience members with songs from Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga. Finally the JAMS band students, led by Mr. Mulcahy, finished the evening strong with performances by the concert bands and the Top Jazz band. The evening was a great success, raising funds for the department and bringing joy to all who attended the performance. MUSICALATHON
ACES
ACES students, and advisor Mr. Sack, are making a difference in the Edison community by participating in Read Across America, sharing their love of reading with JMI students. As they read aloud, they not only encourage literacy, but also explore meaningful questions about personal growth and the future.
STUDENT DEI TEAM
The Student DEI Team, led by Mrs. Cardoso, is hard at work preparing for their leadership conference in March. In small groups, the students are working to help combat issues they identified within our school community- competition with grades and stress. Students are working to create classroom lessons to help teach the 6th graders strategies to cope within these two areas.
HUDDLE UP SYMPOSIUM
On Tuesday, January 28th JAMS held its first annual Huddle Up Symposium where 75 students highlighted their interest projects. The Huddle Up students presented to parents, community members, NJ Department of Education representatives, and their peers. The themes of the project varied in nature, touching on sports, community service efforts, and artistic endeavors to name a few. Students honed their presentation skills by sharing their interests to small groups and the feedback was tremendous! A special thanks to the six Huddle Up teachers who guided them through the process: Ms. Hickman, Ms. Hopkins, Mrs. Maiorana, Mr. Redding, Mr. Sudia, and Mr. Saverino.
