ADVISORY TEAM FOR THE ENVIRONMENT FOOD AND HEALTH
The Advisory Team for Environment, Food and Health (Advisory Team) is a radiological emergency response group tasked with providing protective action recommendations to state, local and tribal governments on behalf of its member agencies. The permanent membership includes representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Advisory Team was incorporated into the Nuclear/Radiological Incident Annex of the National Response Plan (NRP), which has been replaced by the National Response Framework. The Advisory Team's mission is to provide coordinated advice and recommendations for the Federal, State, local and tribal governments in radiation emergencies. The Advisory Team provides advice in matters related to protective actions for emergencies as related to food, water, and agricultural resources; recovery, return, and cleanup following a radiological event; and estimated effects of radioactive releases on human health and the environment. The A-Tean is a coordinated asset that must be officially requested to be activated. Activation of the A-Team can be requested by any federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial entity through the EPA Emergency Operations Center at 202/564-3850, (eoc.epahq@epa.gov). It could also be activated through its participation on the Nuclear/Radiological Incident Taskforce (NRITF). The A-Team will be activated concurrently with activation of the Federal Radiological Monitoring and Assessment Center (FRMAC).
