NAREL develops and applies the most advanced methods for measuring environmental radioactivity as well as evaluating their risk to the public. NAREL maintains RadNet, a nationwide radiation monitoring system, which is capable of producing real-time radiation measurements for use by decision makers. NAREL also works to enhance the nation’s radiological laboratory capacity capability to respond to a radiological or nuclear incident by providing training, developing rapid radiochemical methods and incident response laboratory guideline documents.
