CCRPB administers and enforces the Radiation Emitting Devices Act (REDA). REDA governs the sale, lease, importation and advertising of radiation emitting devices in Canada. Includes devices that emit radiation in the form of: Radiofrequency Microwave Infrared Visible light Ultraviolet light X-rays Infrasound Sound Ultrasound As part of Health Canada, the Consumer and Clinical Radiation Protection Bureau: conducts research into device performance, human radiation exposures, and the biological and health effects of radiation exposure; undertakes surveillance of scientific literature on radiation protection, radiation and health, and dosimetry; conducts risk assessments; contributes to the development of international equipment standards and guidelines; collaborates with international health organizations; develops device regulatory performance standards; performs inspection and device compliance verifications; performs bio dosimetry in support of the Federal Nuclear Emergency Plan; and, provides expertise and advice on radiation exposure and device hazards to other government departments, stakeholders and the public.
