Aplin & Martin Consultants Ltd. (Aplin Martin) is a multi-disciplinary, employee-owned company that has provided trusted consulting engineering services in British Columbia since 1968. Maggie Koka, MCIP, RPP Chief Communications Officer

Maggie is a respected Metro Vancouver Urban Planner with 20+ years of experience in community building, land development, project management, and stakeholder consultation. Over her career, she has held several senior positions with Aplin Martin, including Senior Project Manager and Branch Manager of the Surrey Central Office.

David Chan, FEC, P.Eng., M.Eng. President & CEO David’s tenure at Aplin Martin since 1998 has been marked by significant contributions to the firm’s growth and success. His technical expertise, particularly in capital works improvement, has been instrumental in ensuring the successful execution of various projects. His keen business acumen and commitment to client value has always been at the forefront of his strategy for growth. Mr. Chan consistently invests in the workforce, and diversifies service offerings, all while fostering sustainable relationships with clients. Under his guidance, Aplin Martin has engaged effectively with staff, managers, community partners, and business strategy leaders, further solidifying its position in the industry. Derek oversees and supports the operations of all business groups within the firm. Combining a passion for optimizing systems, supporting our team member’s continual growth, and turning Key Performance Indicators into a starting point for meaningful conversations, Mr. Hull enjoys supporting the advancement of all facets of the organization. Ed Fujii. P.Eng. Corporate Advisor & Client Executive Ed is a Professional Engineer with more than 40 years of experience in land development and municipal engineering. Since joining Aplin Martin in 1992, Ed has been a key member of the Aplin Martin team, growing with

Chesley is a Professional Engineer with 15 years of experience. He oversees the engineering staff out of our Oakville office. Chesley is responsible with technical expertise in the detailed design of municipal works for residential, commercial and industrial developments.

With over 10 years of experience, Michael specializes in civil design for commercial, industrial, and institutional developments. He oversees all project phases, from feasibility analysis to securing approvals, and leverages infrastructure modeling to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions.

Josh Smith, P.Eng. Engineering Lead, Ottawa

Josh is a Professional Engineer with 16 years of experience. He oversees the engineering staff out of our Ottawa office. Josh has extensive expertise in road reconstruction, land subdivision, onsite development, drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, sewer rehabilitation, and bridge and culvert restoration.

PORTFOLIO

NICOL BUILDING (CARLETON UNIVERSITY CAMPUS), OTTAWA, ON

Josh was the Civil Engineering Lead and Engineer of Record for this project. This 115,000-square-foot, six-storey facility included classrooms, event spaces, and collaborative areas. The project involved working on a congested campus that required detailed designs of the existing buried utilities, underground pedestrian tunnels, large- diameter storm sewers, and sanitary and water mains running beneath existing buildings. Providing pedestrian connection points to the nearby bus route and bicycle parking was essential to the university. This project involved detailed designs in support of Site Plan Approval, producing specifications and unit items for the tender, assistance during the tender process, contract administration for civil items, periodic inspections throughout construction, and project close-out services.

2060 South Sheridan Way, Mississauga, ON

Aplin Martin is the Civil Engineer of Record for the Bluebird Self Storage Facility at 2068 South Sheridan Way in the City of Mississauga. Aplin Martin prepared the detailed civil engineering design, including but not limited to site grading, site servicing, stormwater management, and erosion/sediment control in support of site plan approval. Aplin Martin will further provide civil contract administration services during construction in the summer of 2019. The proposed works consist of the demolition of the two existing single-storey commercial buildings and construction of a 169,000 ft2 five-storey self storage facility complete with private laneway, boulevard, and landscape features.

KING EAST PHASE 2 SUBDIVISION, RICHMOND HILL, ON Our involvement in the comprehensive residential project encompassing the development of 171 new residential lots has been an exciting venture for us at Aplin Martin. The project's technical features include the integration of new municipal roads, alongside the incorporation of essential components such as storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and water mains along these roads, enhancing the overall infrastructure of the community. Notably, the construction of a 1650mm diameter bypass storm sewer was a significant highlight, facilitating the efficient conveyance of existing overland flows within the pipe, further bolstering the site's stormwater management capabilities. Additionally, our team implemented on-lot LID features, emphasizing the importance of achieving water balance criteria for sustainable and environmentally conscious development.

Aplin Martin played a pivotal role in preparing all essential civil engineering deliverables, including the site grading plan, site servicing plan, stormwater management report, and erosion and sediment control plan, all crucial in supporting the Subdivision Agreement. Moreover, our commitment extended to providing comprehensive civil contract administration services during the construction phase, ensuring the smooth and efficient execution of the project. Despite the challenges presented by the coordination and approval processes from York Region for work on King Road, as well as the intricate task of integrating an existing overland flow route into a 1650mm diameter concrete storm sewer, our team remained dedicated to overcoming these obstacles and delivering a successful and sustainable residential development.

125 STEACY GARDENS, BROCKVILLE, ON

Josh acted as the Civil Project Manager and Engineering Lead for this 4-storey, 32-unit residential slab-on- grade building, which included an outdoor parking lot and a small landscaped area. This project required confirming the legal boundaries of the site, verifying the existing services available within the road, and working around a large storm sewer that ran through the property within an easement. Protection measures for the large storm sewer were required. A mix of surface and underground stormwater storage was utilized to protect existing vegetation along the perimeter of the site in order to avoid retaining walls. Grading along the property lines and building was designed to ensure all site runoff was captured and treated onsite. An oil and grit separator was installed in order to meet the requirements of the City and local conservation authority.

Aplin Martin is the Civil Engineer of Record for the 28- storey mixed-use high rise located at 844 Don Mills Road, Toronto Ontario. As the civil engineer of record, Aplin Martin prepared all civil engineering deliverables in support of Site Plan Approval including but not limited to: site grading plan, site servicing plan, functional servicing and stormwater management report, erosion and sediment control plan. The project consists of 390 residential units, day care, long-term care and indoor/outdoor amenity space.

As the civil engineer of record, Aplin Martin prepared all civil engineering deliverables in support of Site Plan Approval including but not limited to: site grading plan, site servicing plan, functional servicing and stormwater management report, erosion and sediment control plan. The project consists of three (3) separate commercial buildings with surface parking and landscape features.

Aplin Martin is the Civil Engineer of Record for the commercial development located at 189 Bullock Drive, in Markham, Ontario. As the civil engineer of record, Aplin Martin prepared all civil engineering deliverables in support of Site Plan Approval including but not limited to: site grading plan, site servicing plan, functional servicing and stormwater management report, erosion and sediment control plan. The project consists of a 2-storey commercial building complete with at-grade parking, a loading dock, and landscape features. Aplin Martin also completed construction inspections and certified the work for acceptance and occupancy.

Josh acted as the Civil Project Manager and Engineering Lead for this 4-storey, 37-unit residential building, which included ground-level walkouts and rear outdoor basement parking to best suit the site's grading. Surface stormwater was maximized to reduce the amount of underground storage. Josh oversaw the detailed design, servicing, and stormwater management report in support of the Site Plan approval. Downstream analysis was completed, and approvals from the City and MECP were obtained, as the existing infrastructure was near capacity with concerns of surcharging.
