SUBMITTED BY DOUG WALTERS Results from the 2022 Redfish, Trout, and Flounder Tournament The competition was tough, and the fish were even tougher to find in this year ’ s Redfish, Trout, and Flounder Tournament. The tournament, which lasted 7 days, saw most anglers fishing multiple days in their quest to catch the largest total length of fish in each of the three categories (most anglers now practice “ catch and release ” technique to preserve the stock of fish in our waters). After the week was over and the results were tallied, Mike Karas took the top prize for having the largest total for all 3 species. Mike also topped the Trout category, with Andy Hudick winning the Redfish category, and Ray Diaz winning the Flounder category.

Next Event The next Tournament (in the planning stages) will be for Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, and Bull Redfish. These are the species that inhabit the reefs and sand bars lying off the Low Country beaches. The club members received a briefing on how to catch these fish at their June 20 th meeting when they heard from Captain “ Rico ” Pollitzer, an accomplished charter boat captain, who shared his knowledge about how, when, and where to fish for these species.
