Understanding student’s lives and experiences can support teachers with ensuring a sense of belonging and shared respect in their classrooms. Cultural responsiveness includes holding high expectations for all students, using students’ cultures and experiences to enhance their learning, and providing all students with access to effective instruction and adequate resources for learning. This course provides participants the opportunity to work together to create and identify strategies that showcase their individual teaching style, include student voice, and hold high expectations for their classroom learning environment.

De-Escalation Strategies for Educators BEHAVIORAL SUPPORTS

This course stresses the importance of focusing on prevention and early recognition of factors that may lead to escalation of student behavior. Topics will include self-care, precipitating factors, rational detachment, values of staff members and organizations, non-verbal communication, para-verbal communication, verbal communication, crisis development and the verbal de-escalation continuum.
Intended Audience
Special education teachers, paraprofessionals, site administrators, school psychologists, and general education teachers.
