DETERMINATION One of the most wonderful promises of God’s Word is that His grace is sufficient for us, and that when we are weak, then are we strong in the Lord. A six-year-old boy had received a pair of roller skates for his birthday. Trying to learn how to use them, he found himself more on the pavement than up right. His knees were getting pretty badly bruised. A neighbor, watering the lawn nearby, sympathized at the scene and suggested, “Son, you’ve been getting pretty badly scraped up there. Don’t you think you’d better give up for now?” (It was just after a bad tumble.) Tears filled his eyes with pain as he responded, pushing out his lower lip, “M y daddy didn’t give me these so that I would give up. He gave them to me 1o learn how to skate.” That is the same kind of determination you and I need as we face the difficul ties and adversities of every day life. In effect the Lord says to us, “/ didn’t give you this new life just to give up. I gave it to you so that you might learn how to live; so that you may become more than conquerors through M y grace.” How wonderful the bene diction of the Apostle Jude, as he writes by the Holy Spirit, “Unto Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the pres ence of his glory with exceeding joy.” * * * While honesty is the best policy— make sure you don't let the premiums lapse. * * * THE POWER* TO MAKE GOOD Have you ever had a particularly bad day when things just seemed to go all wrong? Maybe these times come all too frequently. There was a little girl by the name of Mary Jane who had experienced a rather trying and hectic day. She had caused herself and mother a lot of grief. When it came time for her evening prayers, she knelt beside the bed, expressed her regret for being naughty and then concluded, “Dear Lord, I want to be a good girl. Won’t you please help me to be a good girl from now on?” She got up and

Back to her knees she went, adding the words, “Help me to be a good girl, Father. But dear Lord, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again, won’t you?” How won derful to know that when we sin, we have an immediate Advocate w ith the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ. He never tires of our coming to Him, confessing our sins, and looking to Him for new spiritual victories. “Now unto him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen)’ The little man will be disturbed by little things. * * * HOW THE PENNIES WERE SPENT A missionary, recently returned from Africa, was scheduled to speak one Sunday. A little boy was excited to 21
