That Fateful Day
Flames exploded around me,
bursting through the air.
I stay huddled in the corner,
ash singeing at my hair.
I tried to search for an escape,
but smoke filled up my eyes.
As the tears rolled down my face,
I awaited my demise.
I stayed in my cracking corner,
as the flames engulfed the floor.
What had happened here today?
And has it happened here before?
Why did I come to work today
and climb up to the top?
It made me feel like I could fly,
but now I fear I ’ ll drop.
The screams had slowly faded,
and replaced with but one cry.
Had the wails been my own?
And was I really going to die?
Soon the flames had overtaken,
and all my hope was lost.
Why did they choose to do this,
and was it worth their cost?
