Y2 Selection Zone Selection Zone Overview
The Selection Zone is devoted entirely to supporting Fellows as they begin to learn the outcomes of their efforts to be accepted into a college, trade school/certification program, university, a branch of the U.S. Military forces, or to be offered a job or apprenticeship. This stage of the Y2 experience is typically filled with anticipation, excitement, some worry, and sometimes, disappointment. Support from peer Fellows, Program Directors, Champions, school counselors, and families can help Fellows make decisions, manage disappointments, and pivot, as is necessary sometimes, to alternative plans. Being invited to participate in a college or trade program, or being offered a job means just that: an offer has been made. Fellows must be aware of the necessary and required steps they will need to take to secure that offer. For college, that might mean paying a deposit. For employment, that could mean signing an offer letter or confirming a start date. Whichever pathway has presented the opportunity, Fellow follow-through is extremely important. Fellows will need to carefully read any and all received materials (emails, letters, etc.) to understand the expectations they must meet to ensure they are on campus or at that job site when the time arrives. For Fellows choosing to serve in the U.S. Military, the ASVAB determines the branches of military for which a Fellow qualifies. Once determined, Fellows’ next steps are guided by military personnel. Please note that Fellows are expected to continue participating in OneGoal, receiving continued support from their Program Director and Champion.
