Acknowledgement of Prizes
Ali Grigg Prize for all-round excellence in the Christ’s College Diploma To be awarded to the student who has shown a Gold level of Academic Engagement and demonstrated a commitment to the ethos of Ngā Miha Mātauranga. The recipient may not be the top academic student, but must have demonstrated a growth mindset to learning and endeavoured to achieve at their best. AK & DF Hancock Prize for the Head Treble Legacy of Ruby Elsie Hancock in memory of her sons, Albert Keith Hancock (3652) and Desmond Field Hancock (4164). Both killed in action in World War II.
Andrew K Allison Prize for Instrumental Music Given by the Allison Family in memory of Andrew K Allison (5006).
Barnett Prizes for Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Mathematics and Physics Gift of Sir Louis Barnett in memory of Ralph Fulton Barnett (2306). Killed in action World War I.
Charles Upham Award for Character These awards celebrate character strengths in action in the classroom, around the school, and in the community. Up to two awards are made in each year group. They are named after College Old Boy Charles Upham, who was awarded the Victoria Cross and Bar during World War II. Charles Upham is recognised for his strengths of humility, courage, perseverance and leadership.
Denham Memorial Prize for English Composition Given by the family of Conrad Nelder Denham (1630).
John H Atkinson Prize for History Given by Mrs MLY Atkinson in memory of her husband, John Henry Atkinson (3254).
The Neave Prizes for French and Spoken French Given by Adelaide Neave in memory of Kenelm Neave (1373).
Lalomanu Bowl Established in 2023, this award is to recognise and celebrate a student of Pasifika descent who has shown strength in character and leadership within our school community.
Le Cren Prizes for Geography and Science A legacy from Leslie Jaumaud Le Cren (2938).
Lesley Anderson-McKenna Award for Perseverance and Endeavour Named for Lesley Anderson-McKenna, who started teaching at Christ’s College in 1982 and was Head of Learning Support from 2005 until her retirement in 2022. This award recognises the perseverance and endeavour of a student who has consistently overcome challenges to achieve their own personal best in their learning.
