ble prayer in the presence of others? The answer is, Yes. But when He de livered what we know as “The Lord’s Prayer” — “Our Father which art in heaven” etc., that was not His prayer, it was a model which He gave to the disciples—after that manner were they to pray. However, the real prayer of our Lord is given in the 17th chapter of the Gospel according to St. John — “These words spake Jesus and lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, Father the hour is come . . .” Probably no one heard this prayer wing from His lips but the disciples. Then we are reminded of the fact that our Lord did pray, when on the Cross, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Surely that prayer was heard by everyone around the Cross — the fol lowers of our Lord, the Roman sol diers, and the motley mob that had come to see the brutal experience—they must all have heard. So in that sense our Lord did pray publically. Q. Coos Bay, Oregon. “What is the mean ing of the sin of death mentioned by Paul? I cannot seem to find the pas sage in my Bible.” This comes from one interested in the study of God’s Word. A. The passage speaks literally of the sin unto death, but it is not mentioned by Paul which is probably the reason the listener could not find it. The Apostle John says in I John 5:16—“If any man see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: not concerning this do I say he should make request.” Now w;hat is the mean ing of that sin unto death? When a believer by unyieldedness, and by lack of surrender, obstinately puts his will against God’s will — saying in effect, I know what God wants me to do but I am not going to do it — in this lies our answer. God will then, on occasion, not always, take some individuals out of this life because they are no longer useful for the Lord. This sin was true of Ananias and Sapphira. That was

Santa Barbara, California is the point of origin of this question: “What is the difference between pounds and talents as given to us in the Word of God?” A. In the terminology of our day we speak of pounds as money (as in Eng land), and talents as our abilities. How ever, in the Word of God there is no difference in their meaning — they were weights of money. Naturally, you would know that the silver and the gold talents differed in value as weights. Q. In the parable regarding those peo ple who went out w ith the talents that their master had given them — how much did a talent represent? A. Well, in these parables as well as in the Old Testament the indication is for instance in I Kings 20:40 — “A man was eiven me into the battle and they said keep this man as thy life shall be for his life, else thou shalt also pay a talent.” A talent is supposed to represent practically what would be a lifelong wage of the poor day lab orer. Q. From Red Bluff we have this en quiry: “Did Moses write the Penta teuch — if so, how do we know this?” A. Did Moses write the Pentateuch? (continued on next page) 27
