I The FBI figures for 1961 reveal that today, one out of every 25 juveniles is arrested. Arrests in the group from 1 0 - 1 7 year olds has increased 48 per cent in the past five years. The greatest upturns in crime are those involving stolen property (105 per cent); forgery (82 per cent); drunken driving (65 per cent); robbery (49 per cent) — this is to say nothing of the overwhelming growth in crimes involving sex and immorality. Now the same newspaper which re ports these facts also carries items such as this one from a Southern California city, where police have uncovered a club of 18 married couples who visit (continued on next page)
A n appropriate paraphrase for adults to realize today is taken from Paul’s letter to the “Vanity Fair” Christians at Corinth — “Wherefore, if any manner of sin makes a young person to stumble, I will avoid all appearances of evil, lest I cause a ju venile to be led into delinquency.” While there are alarming reports which come to us from governmental sources and agencies, concerning the growth of crime, there is a vital need for us to realize that juvenile delin quency is only the reflection of adult modes, morals and methods. There is no form of juvenile delinquency which does not have its counterpart in adult action.
