JAN 2024 A YEAR OF TRANSFORMATION Embracing Growth in 2024 THE SLG ADVISOR
As we enter 2024, we welcome fresh beginnings and exciting possibilities. For us at Spada Law, this year marks a significant chapter in our journey — a time for transformation, growth, and blessings we are thrilled to share. Over the past five years, Spada Law has evolved from a 6-person team into a group of 12, with expectations of expanding to a team of 14 or 15 very soon. While this growth is undoubtedly a blessing, it has brought forth a unique set of challenges. Our current workspace, which has been our home for 25 years, is just too small. Our rapid growth has us sitting on top of each other, and I fear that if we bring on one more team member, I’ll have to stick them in a corner with a milk carton for a desk. It’s a fantastic problem, but it compelled us to seek a solution that would accommodate our growing family. I spent the better half of last year trying to find a new space that could meet our expanding needs, and I located a 5,000-square-foot lease across the street. It seemed to be the perfect fit, and we even had plans for a complete renovation. However, lease negotiations broke down
at the last minute, and the deal eventually fell through. In hindsight, it felt like a blessing in disguise — something didn’t feel right, and I am a big believer that things happen for a reason. After tons of searching, I began toying with the idea of moving our office out of Chelsea, Massachusetts, but that just didn’t feel right either — our roots are here. Then, a last-minute opportunity fell into our laps. A fellow attorney in our current building was downsizing and offered

to lease us their newly renovated office space. The universe seemed to align perfectly, and this opportunity will allow us to operate seamlessly from our current and additional spaces in the same building. Wendy Lopez

Recently, a former client of Spada Law reached out to us with a legal issue involving her employment. While employed at a painting company, our client was subjected to sexual harassment. The CEO failed to address the reported issue and address her resulting emotional distress. To make matters worse, our client was retaliated against for reporting the harassment to the point where she was forced out of her job. We immediately identified that she had a potential employment law case and because we only handle personal injury matters, we connected her with a trusted colleague

Keep your fingers crossed! As I write this, the deal is on the verge of being finalized, and I don’t want to have to get a big, red “transaction canceled” stamp to place on the front of this newsletter. The combined 5,000 square feet of office space will provide enough room for our growing team and offer an environment conducive to continued expansion and, most importantly, better service to our clients and community. If all goes as planned, there will be no need to update your GPS; we’ll still be right here, ready to serve you with the same dedication and passion. What Did Mayans Consider to Be ‘Model’ Looks?
Beauty and fashion trends come and go throughout the years, and some even make a comeback. The ancient Mayans also sought to be beautiful, but their practices were different compared to modern standards. Let’s take a look at what beauty meant to the Mayans. • Mayans shaped and filed their teeth to sharp points and drilled holes through the center of their teeth to insert gems. • Mayans carved into the skin to create 3D tattoos.
•
Mayan families bound the heads of their infant children between two boards while the skull was growing to achieve a long and narrow cranial structure, resembling their most prized crop, corn.
• Mayans attempted to create crossed eyes because they considered them beautiful. They put a band around the heads of children with a bead suspended right in front of their eyes until the children were permanently cross-eyed. • Mayans added specially designed artificial nose bridges that were often multicolored and decorated with gems to achieve larger noses, which emulated their avian gods. Beauty is influenced by cultural values, and the Mayans invested a lot of time, energy, and creativity to achieve their vision of beauty, even if that vastly differs from today’s standards.
