WHAT'S ON

In CaseYou Didn't Know, it’s your chance to Freak Out

Olly Murs can’t wait for his first chance to experience the magic of Kingsholm. Hearts will be skipping a beat on Friday, June 7 when the star of The Voice takes to the stage for the first of a weekend double-header of concerts. Nile Rodgers and Chic complete a weekend of first- class entertainment with a show on Sunday, June 9 as the popular concert series returns to the home of Gloucester after a year hiatus. Olly Murs broke on to the scene when he was runner-up in the 2009 series of the X-Factor and has been wowing crowds since. The Kingsholm date is the finale of a sell-out UK tour that sees the Essex boy head to the West Country for the first time. “I think it’s the first time I’ve ever been to that part of the country, so I’m really excited to see the stadium and the scenery,” he said.

“I can’t wait it’s going to be amazing. It’s the only stadium I’m doing this summer. It’s a massive stadium and to do a live outside stadium gig to end my tour is going to be unbelievable. I can’t wait.”

Nile Rodgers

Nile Rodgers and Chic provide a complete contrast to Olly Murs, but fans are being warned that they will dance themselves sore – by the man himself. A veteran on the circuit at the age of 66, Nile Rodgers has been wowing crowds with favourites like Le Freak and Everybody Dance since the 1970s. He is promising that some of the people who will take to the Kingsholm pitch will be as worn out at the end as the Cherry andWhites after a bruising encounter ”We really believe in having fun. Good times and happiness,” he said. “What people have told us on social media is ‘my feet are still hurting from two weeks ago when I went dancing to Chic all night’.” “I mean for me, at my age, having done so much music and have an audience really appreciate it, it blows me away” l Tickets for Olly Murs and Nile Rodgers and Chic are on sale from musicplussport.com

PROBABLY THE BEST RAVE SINCE 1997 NME

As I drove into a car park, I noticed that a pickup truck with a dog sitting behind the wheel was rolling toward a female pedestrian. She seemed oblivious, so I hit my horn to get her attention. She looked up just in time to jump out of the way of the truck's path, and the vehicle bumped harmlessly into the kerb and stopped. I rushed to the woman's side to see if she was all right. "I'm fine," she assured me, "but I hate to think what could have happened to me if that dog hadn't beeped the horn" l
