that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Oct. 30, 1955 P reach and R each OBJECTS: A correspondence envelope and a red cardboard cross. (Gut a slot in the front of the envelope 1 inch wide and 6 inches long. In this slot, on the uncut side of the envelope print the word “preach.” The base of the cross should be the same width as the envelope and about li$|| inches in depth. The crossarm and the up right of the cross should be 1 inch wide. Cut the upper end of the en velope off, in order that the cross may be inserted.) LESSON: How many words do you see on this envelope? I hear you say “One.” Apparently you are right, but I am speaking to you about hidden words, and I want you to be careful, lest you miss seeing some words, -which at first do not appear. In Luke 4:18 we read, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gos pel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and re covering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” The word “preach” means to her ald or proclaim. We will now start hunting for the hidden words. I will move the red cross down a little, covering the let ter “P” and we now see the word “reach.” Christ wanted to preach in order that He might reach those who were in need.
pieces of paper from black, blue, green and yellow to fit each of the small envelopes. Place the papers and tin in the envelopes as indicated later and seal. With crayons lightly color one envelope black, another red, and another yellow, leaving one white. Put a red cross on the front of the large envelope.)
Oct. 16, 1955 A B ig “B”
OBJECTS: A capital “B” about 6 inches high, cut from bright yellow paper. (Cut a blue capital “P” the same height as the “B.” Cut a blue “O” the size of the bottom lobe of the “B.” Before the lesson thumb-tack the “B” to the wall, with the “P” and “0 ” hidden beneath it. At first it will appear to be a blue “B” underneath the yellow one.) LESSON: This large yellow “B” is to remind us of “baptism.” Christ’s bap tism was an important event in His life. We read in Luke 3:21,22, “Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost de scended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my be loved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” This large “B” will teach us the importance of baptism. Out of this “B” comes a capital “0,” which re minds us of the word “obedience.” In Matt. 28:19, we read, “Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, bap tizing them in the name of the Fa ther, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Christians who follow the command of Christ are obedient to Him. This big “B” has another letter in it. We now see a capital “P.” We will let it remind us of the word “pleas ing.” When Jesus was baptized, the voice said, “Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22b). It is encouraging for us to know that the one who follows Christ’s example and command will be well pleasing to God the Father. Baptism is a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ; and also a picture of the Christian. In Romans 6:4 we read, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Oct. 23, 1955 T ell by T earing OBJECTS: Four correspondence envel opes and one larger envelope. LESSON: These four envelopes are to remind us of the four races of earth —the red, the yellow, the black aind the white people. There is one thing in which all races are alike—when tempted they all are shown to be sinners. We will test these envelopes by tearing them open. We will test the white one first, which represents the white race. When I tear it open, I find black on the inside, reminding us of sin. People sin because there is sin in their hearts. Next, we will tear open the red en velope, which reminds us of the In dians. On the inside of this envelope we find yellow, reminding us of fear. We often speak of a coward as being “yellow.” Many sinners of all races are encouraged to sin because they fear what their friends will say if they do not. We will now open the yellow en velope. It has blue on the inside. Many sinners sin because they feel blue or sad. The black envelope tears as easily as the rest, and green is the color we find in it. We often speak of ignorant people as being “green.” There are many people the world around who sin because of ignorance. The large envelope refuses to tear. It has the piece of tin in it the size of the envelope. I am not surprised when I turn it over and see on the other side a red cross which repre sents Christ. We are told that Jesus was tempted of the devil in the wil derness without sinning. This temp tation proved that He was the sinless Son of God. In Hebrews 4:15,16 we read, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace,
Next, we move the cross down un til the “R” .is covered, and we dis cover the word “each.” Christ preached in order that He might reach each individual. Since Jesus has gone back to heav en, He needs those who will carry on His work here on the earth. In Mark 16:15 we read, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every crea ture.” This verse is known as the great commission, and it shows us that He wants us to preach and reach each one in need of salvation. END.
