LIQUOR AND GAMING Jonathon Root

T he liquor, gaming and hospitality industries have been heavily impacted by the social distancing measures put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. The Liquor and Gaming Branch will continue to work with licensees and permit holders to assist them in this difficult and rapidly changing environment. The Tasmanian Government has announced significant support and stimulus measures to help the State get through the challenge of coronavirus. For liquor and gaming operators, this includes certain fees being waived or reduced to assist local businesses and individuals. You will receive an email from us during April 2020 about the fee changes. If you have already paid the waived or reduced fees in 2020, this email will explain what you need to do to apply for a refund. We will process these applications as quickly as possible. Our website www.treasury.tas.gov.au/liquor-and-gaming is a good way to stay informed and to review the recent fee changes.

Other key measures announced by the Tasmanian Government include financial assistance for individuals, households, the primary health and mental health sectors, small businesses (including payroll tax waivers), local government and community organisations, as well as targeted assistance for other industries that have also been hit hard by the public health requirements. For further information on these stimulus and support measures go to www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au Liquor and Gaming Branch staff are now working remotely as a result of COVID-19 controls. The reception counter at our offices at 4 Salamanca Place, Hobart and Henty House Launceston are closed until further notice. You can keep up-to-date via our website and if you have a query about your licence or permit please email us at licensing@treasury.tas.gov.au or at gaming@treasury.tas.gov.au.
