FCIF Provides Hope and Stability: JOHNNY’S STORY OF STRENGTH
J ohnny spent more than two decades in the flooring industry, building a versatile career across roles rang- ing from personnel clerk to claims specialist. His life changed after a Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis, and later, a fall resulted in a serious hip injury that required surgery and months of rehabilitation. As medical bills mounted and time away from work stretched on, the challenges facing Johnny and his family became overwhelming. Luck-
ily, Johnny learned about the Floor Covering Industry Foundation (FCIF,) a nonprofit dedicated to helping flooring families get back on their feet when facing life-altering medical challenges. Thanks to generous donors across the flooring community, FCIF was able to provide a grant to cover past-due mortgage payments, utilities, and essential medical care. This assistance offered Johnny and his family a lifeline during an incredibly difficult time. Reflecting on the hardships he faced and the support he received, Johnny shared, “The Floor Covering Industry Foundation has helped me get through all of these things.” Industry leaders often highlight the compassion within the flooring industry, especially when families face life-changing challenges. As Charlie Dilks of CCA Global Partners shared, “Our industry is truly remarkable because when people within our community face a hardship — a catastrophic illness and a financial crisis — we come together. That spirit of compassion is what makes this industry so great.” Board member Amie Gilmore also reflected on the impact of FCIF’s work, saying, “I’ve long admired FCIF’s incredible work, and it was an honor to join the Board in 2024.
