As we approach the final week of the semester, I want to take a moment to reflect on all we’ve accomplished together this year. The halls of Wabash Valley College have been filled with the energy of students chasing dreams, overcoming challenges, and striving for success. It’s been inspiring to watch so many of you grow—not just academically, but personally as well. With Christmas break just around the corner and the New Year less than a month away, it’s a wonderful time to pause and express gratitude. Whether it’s for your supportive friends, family, or the opportunities you’ve seized this semester, take a moment to recognize all that you have to be thankful for. As you prepare for finals, I encourage you to finish strong. Dedicate yourself to the hard work you’ve put in all semester—but don’t forget to balance it with moments of joy. After the work is done, allow yourself to recharge over the break. Rest isn’t just a luxury; it’s a necessity for both your body and mind. The New Year will bring new opportunities, challenges, and adventures, but right now, let’s savor the present. Work hard, play hard, and take care of yourself. MANUFACTURING & ENGINEERING DAY 2024
On November 14th, Wabash Valley College hosted its Manufacturing & Engineering Tech Day, welcoming over 30 high school students and community members to learn about exciting career opportunities in this growing field. The event was a chance to explore WVC’s hands-on program that’s designed to give students real-world experience and industry-relevant skills. It’s all about preparing graduates to hit the ground running as entry-level professionals in manufacturing and engineering —a field that’s vital to our local economy.
Lighting, and Maureen Hays from CEFS-WIOA in Crawford and Lawrence Counties for their support. Their involvement helped make the day both informative and inspiring. Participants enjoyed lunch and walked away with a better understanding of what it takes to succeed in this line of work. It’s great to see WVC bringing opportunities like this to our community, helping pave the way for the next generation of skilled workers. INTERNATIONAL THANKSGIVING
On November 14th, Wabash Valley College brought a little taste of home—and something new —to our international students with a special International Thanksgiving celebration at the Warrior Grill. Students from all four IECC campuses gathered to share a classic American Thanksgiving meal, complete with ham, macaroni and cheese, and a variety of desserts. The event wasn’t just about the food; it was about connection. With students representing a range of countries, it was a chance to meet one another, share stories, and enjoy fellowship in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It’s always inspiring to see events like this at WVC, where we celebrate not just our traditions but the diverse backgrounds that make our campus community so special.

RADIO/TV DAY
What a day it was on Thursday, November 21st, as Wabash Valley College welcomed over 140 high school students from 11 area schools to our annual Radio/TV Day. This event has become a highlight on campus, giving young students a chance to explore the world of broadcasting and media production. We were thrilled to have Kat Mykals, a proud WVC graduate and a true success story, as our guest speaker. Kat, who works with 103 WGBF Radio in Evansville, recently won the prestigious Marconi Award for Best Small Market Radio Personality in the country. On top of that, she was just named the new host of a nationally syndicated rock radio show. Her insights and energy were truly inspiring for the students in attendance.

Special appreciation goes to Eli Grimes, our Radio/TV program colleague, for hosting breakout sessions with the help of our WVC RTV students. And of course, we couldn’t have done it without the support of our theater crew and maintenance staff, who ensured everything ran smoothly and looked fantastic. Radio/TV Day was a shining example of how WVC opens doors for the next generation, providing hands-on learning and a glimpse into the exciting opportunities that await.

HELLO THERE! On November 21st, Wabash Valley College marked World Hello Day, a global celebration of peace and communication. International students from all corners of the world participated by introducing themselves in their native languages, offering a unique opportunity for everyone to learn how "hello" is said around the world.
World Hello Day was a beautiful reminder of the unity found in diversity, and it was heartwarming to see our international students engage with the campus in such a meaningful way.

FYI: NURSING AND PTA INFORMATION SESSIONS AT WVC Wabash Valley College (WVC) will host a series of information sessions for students interested in applying for Fall 2025 entry into its Nursing and Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) programs. Nursing Program Information Sessions Illinois Eastern Community Colleges (IECC) will offer virtual information sessions for those interested in the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Frontier Community College, Lincoln Trail College, Olney Central College, and Wabash Valley College. WVC will also offer in-person sessions specific to the nursing program. Dates, times, and locations for all virtual and in-person sessions can be found at
www.iecc.edu/nursinginfosessions. PTA Program Information Session
WVC invites prospective students and community members to an information session for its Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program. This session will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. CST in the PTA Lab (Room 1) of the Science Building at WVC, located at 2200 College Drive, Mount Carmel, IL. During this session, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the PTA program, review application requirements, tour the state-of-the-art facilities, and participate in a Q&A session with program staff.
To register for the PTA session, visit iecc.edu/wvc. These sessions provide an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a career in nursing or physical therapy to learn more about the programs and take the first step toward a rewarding career.

BEAUTIFUL'S GAME, BEAUTIFUL FUTURE
Waheed Commits to St. Johns, by Bryce Thompson
Lady Warrior sophomore guard Beautiful Waheed has shined during her time at Wabash Valley College. She was an essential part of the 2023-24 team that made it to the final four of the NJCAA Division I National Championship. During her freshman campaign, she averaged 17 points per game, while averaging 7.3 rebounds per game. Also during last season, Waheed shot 51.4 percent from the floor and 40.1 percent from beyond the three point line, the latter of which ranked top-25 in the NJCAA. Beautiful was also named the GRAC Freshman of the Year. This season, Waheed is averaging 12.2 points per game. Waheed will be joining a program that made the NCAA Women's Division I Tournament in the 2022-23 season. The Red Storm are currently 7-1 on the season.
